THREE MORE VITAL POINTS FOR THE FIRST TEAM
BOTH THE SECOND TEAM AND OLD BOYS TEAM RETURN TO ACTION WITH HARD-EARNED ONE-ALL DRAWS

FORTUNETELLER

News, views and everything TFFC by Nigel Kyte

Welcome to issue 27 of the newsletter
The First Team won a second consecutive league match for the first time this season to collect three more vital points in their bid to survive in the MSFL First Division. Strikes from PAUL WALKER, JASON MILLER, BRETT STEAD and substitute KANE GILBERY helped the First Team inflict a 4-2 defeat on relegation-haunted MONTANA BOCA UNITED at The Hive. Both teams struggled to get to grips with an icy surface in a game where Fortune failed to repeat the level of performance against Redbridge last week. However, they managed to go 3-0 up but then allowed Montana back into the game after taking their foot off the gas, conceding two extremely sloppy goals to set up a nervy final five minutes. Kane Gilbery wrapped up a points with a fourth goal in injury time. First Team assistant-manager Jack Morris said: "I'm very happy with the three points but if we play like that next week then we'll be in trouble. Fair play to Montana as well after their 9-0 loss last week. They never gave up and probably deserved a point."

The
Second Team returned to action after a break of three weeks with a difficult match against MSFL Fourth Division leaders ATHLETIC BILBAUM at icy Hampstead Heath. After the kick-off had been delayed to let the frozen pitch soften, the Seconds battled to a very creditable 1-1 draw, their second point gained against Bilbaum this season. DEAN INGRAM scored Fortune's lone goal but the home side will be rueing two missed penalties which should have given them maximum points. Nevertheless, a very good point which keeps the Second Team in fifth place.

Also enjoying a lengthy football-free period were the
Old Boys Team who finally got back into the swing of things with a Masters Second Division fixture against ASHLODGE on the Second Team's pitch at Gosling Sports Park. A goal by JAMES RYAN allowed the Old Boys to take a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw and was a vast improvement on the previous game with the same opposition in September - a 5-1 defeat. The draw was the Old Boys Team's first of the season.

INJURY UPDATE
Here is an update regarding our long-term injuries situation. First Team striker BEN ISAACS had an operation to reconstruct his cruciate ligaments in early October and thankfully all went well. His rehabilitation should take between 6 and 9 months. Says Ben: "Unfortunately I won't be playing again until next season but I'm very much looking forward to getting back in September. Great result last Sunday. Hope the boys can keep it up!" From the Old Boys Team, ROBERT BOTKAI has a knee tendon injury and is unlikely to be fit again this season, whilst ANDY MONTLAKE's broken wrist is mending well but he has been ruled out for the current season too. On a more positive front for this season, First Team defender DANIEL NATOFF should be nearing fitness after his broken toe kept him side-lined for quite a while; he attended the win against Redbridge and did an excellent job as linesman (sorry, assistant referee!) If any other Club Member is currently injured, please send me an email with a progress report.

FORTUNE FIVE MAKE THEJC.COM DIV.1 'TOTW'
Danny Caro's MSFL Division 1 Team of the Week for last Sunday included no less than FIVE Temple Fortune players. Well done to all concerned! John Nitka of Brixton grabbed the Div. 1 Manager of the Week because his team beat Redbridge 'A' in the CA Cup!
1. Steve Murad (Temple Fortune 'A')
2. Josh Tiano (Temple Fortune 'A')
3. Matt Gilbery (Temple Fortune 'A')
4. Eddie Manson (Oakwood)
5. Benji Mannhaim (Temple Fortune 'A')
6. Ben Weinburg (Brixton Old Boys)
7. Michael Posner (Brixton Old Boys)
8. Jonny Kay (Norstar)
9. Michael Field (North West Neasden 'B')
10. Michael Goldberg (Temple Fortune 'A')
11. Josh Green (Norstar)

FORTUNE THREESOME TAKE TJ PLAUDITS
We applaud the wisdom of Andrew Sherwood of totallyjewish.com who gave Temple Fortune a neat double last Sunday! Probably irritating a certain Brixton manager no doubt, Andrew nominated LEE FEGAN and JACK MORRIS as the Joint Managers of the Week after they had splendidly guided the First Team to that brilliant win against Redbridge 'B'. And he also chose defender BENJI MANNHEIM as the Player of the Week from numerous nominees, explaining that Benji "produced another excellent performance at the back as he proved to be integral figure in shock win over leaders Redbridge B." Good choices I feel (well, I'm biased!) but a humble bad luck message goes to last season's Club Linesman of the Year, John Nitka!

NEW KIT SPONSORSHIP REQUIRED
On the subject of a new kit, I have come across a strikingly modern playing kit in TFFC's traditional yellow and red colours, pictured below. I have rarely seen such an attractive innovative design and it would make an ideal Club shirt. The kit is being sold in a January sale by Prosoccer UK (who provided the First XI Daniel Stewart & Co kit) and provides an opportunity for anyone keen to sponsor a kit to do so at a very reasonable price. The Second Team need a new playing kit so if there is someone who is interested in sponsoring one sooner rather than later (before they run out of stock or the offer ends), please contact me without delay for a quote.

INTER-CLUB QUIZ RESUMES ON 22 JANUARY

ALAN HAROUNOFF versus BRYAN SILVER
MARTIN COLLINS versus TONY HIRSCHSTEIN
JACK MORRIS versus LEE FEGAN
DEAN INGRAM versus JONATHAN COHEN

PUNCTUALITY ESSENTIAL
Another reminder that you are requested to be at the venue NO LATER than 30 minutes before the kick-off. Anything after that is LATE. This applies to all three of our teams and fines will be imposed on repeated late-comers. Please take the time to click here and read the information carefully. LATE PLAYERS will continue to be named and shamed on this page in future and fines/suspensions will be imposed as necessary.

ABUSE THE REF MEANS A FOUR MATCH BAN
The Club has been making a point of drumming into all our players that abusing a match official will NOT be tolerated and will earn any offender a ban of FOUR MATCHES. A reminder will be emailed from time to time to everyone in the shape of examples of things you could say to a referee and be sent off. Some of the jpegs you will find amusing but the serious message is always the same – ABUSE THE REF = FOUR MATCH BAN.

KEEP IT ZIPPED!
A timely reminder to those who think yapping at the referee gets you somewhere – a caution for DISSENT will cost you £16. The First Team have had four yellow cards for this offence in the past two matches, which is far too many. This message goes to ALL players representing Temple Fortune: KEEP IT ZIPPED!

MACCABI MASTERS OVER 45'S TOUR, 2012
Last October the Masters League went to Israel for its seventh tour which involved three matches over a seven-day period. Once again the tour was a great success albeit with only a tour part of 17 (including partners) which was our smallest to date. This is the year for the biennial Maccabi World Union Over 45's International Football Tournament when teams from Argentina and Israel will join our team in competition in Israel. The date of this year's tour is 23-30 October 2012.

As in previous years the football will form part of an extensive programme of visits to places of interest. The last two year's tours were costed at £950 (£850 for partners), excluding flights but including virtually full board accommodation at Kfar Maccabiah, tours, matches, uniforms and kit. There is a possibility that this year's competition might include a number of under age players so if you are over 40 and interested, email Stuart Lustigman (MMFL Chairman) on Stuartlustigman@aol.com or call him on 07796 956873.

SIXTEEN MAY NOT BE ENOUGH!
I read this interesting paragraph in Danny Caro's weekly preview: "The Fortune hierarchy have been scrolling through MSFL handbooks this week to work out roughly how many points they need for safety. I can tell them that Camden Park went down with 17 last season, with the team above them finishing on 19. In season 2009/10, Faithfold B went down on 13 points, while Brixton Old Boys survive with 14, and in 2007/08 Brixton B dropped on 16, with Montana surviving on 17." Well, I cannot say I was checking handbooks as such although Mike Shorvon and I were discussing 'safe' points tallies come the end of the season last Wednesday when we met for a drink after one of my University matches. Mike suggested that 16 would be enough to survive but judging by Danny's useful information, which saved me the hassle of checking, this may not necessarily be the case. Thanks, DC!

WOULD SOUBS LOOK GOOD IN BRONZE?
I picked up on another of Danny's comments in the same preview. He said: "There is talk of Josh Marks and Paul Rubenstein having statues at the club’s Canons Park HQ...". Apart from the fact that The Hive certainly cannot be considered the Club's HQ (we couldn't afford any office space there!), I will have to officially deny any talk of statues for the above-mentioned players (no offence to them, of course!) But Danny got me thinking... who would TFFC choose for statues if we were in a position to erect them? (Taking the fantasy further I would suggest the location would be Princes Park, home of TFFC's formation in 1968!) Peter Kyte? Our longest serving player. Stephen Bourne? Influential skipper in the eighties who led Fortune into the MSFL Premier Division and a Peter Morrison Trophy Final. Gary Hyams? Arguably our finest ever player who graced our 80's First Team for two seasons, winning the MSFL Footballer of the Year trophy. Steve Feiger? Our all-time leading goalscorer with over 400 goals. Or Andy Souber? Manager of last season's MSFL Division Two championship-winning team. Difficult choice but maybe that's a great topic for a future TFFC website article!

MACCABI FOOTBALL REVIEW
MSFL review by Danny Caro, www.thejc.com/msfl
MSFL FIRST DIVISION
NORSTAR 'A' 4, NORTH WEST NEASDEN 'B' 3
A second consecutive hat-trick from Josh Green boosted Norstar's title hopes as they edged home in a seven-goal thriller in Wembley. Norstar striker Adam Jason was also on target.
REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE 'B' 0, OAKWOOD 2
Oakwood stormed joint-top of the table with Josh Rose and Jason Lindsay finding the net to dismantle long-time leaders Redbridge 'B', who lost their second game in a row by 2-0, at Fairlop.
SOUTHGATE HARMEN 'B' 1, CHIGWELL ATHLETIC 5
Braces from Dan Castle and Russell Yershon saw Chigwell boost their title hopes with a crushing 5-1 win over lowly Harmen at Ashmole School. The east Londoners stormed into a 3-0 lead at the break and the points were cemented with an own goal. Harmen scored a consolation 15 minutes from time.

MSFL FOURTH DIVISION
BRADY MACCABI 'B' 3, ATHLETICO FINCHLEY 1
Brady 'B' climbed into second place after stopping in-form Athletico in their tracks. Athletico managed to hold off Brady at 0-0 in the first half after suffering two injuries. In the second half, Brady went one up through Reiss Mogilner. Athletico equalised with a header from Sam Marchant but Brady won with two late goals.
JEWVENTUS 0, SPEC FC 0
SPEC FC's promotion hopes received a dent as they were held by Jewventus at Chase Lodge.
NORTH LONDON RAIDERS 'C' 7, BOCA JEWNIORS 1
A hat-trick from Ben Hart helped North London Raiders 'C' get their season back on track with an easy win over basement battlers Boca in Hatfield. Further strikes from Jonny Sandrove (2), Rob Samuelson and Joe Newton put the icing on the cake.

MASTERS LEAGUE
Div.1: GLENTHORNE UNITED 'A' 4, BRADY MACCABI 'A' 0
Leaders Brady 'A' fell to their first defeat of the season with an emphatic defeat at Fairlop, in which their midfielder Paul Shampolina was sent off for violent conduct by referee (and ex-Fortune striker) Steve Feiger.
Div.2: HENDON HARRIERS 5, BRADY MACCABI 'B' 1
