FORTUNETELLER

News, views and everything TFFC by Nigel Kyte

Welcome to issue 5 of the newsletter
The pre-season friendlies got underway on Sunday 7th August with both the First and Second teams in action, giving the Club a win and a defeat. Before I give a summary of the two matches played, I would like to ask ALL players to follow the Club's TWITTER page. It will carry regularly updated news on anything 'official' about the TFFC worth sharing with Club Members. For example, within an hour of the two Temple Fortune matches finishing yesterday, the results were posted on Twitter. Which means that you can find out how TFFC teams get relatively quickly by signing up. We are not running our Twitter account to gass-bag with players and exchange chit chat etc, it is primarily being used to relay INFORMATION to our members quickly and efficiently, so we feel it is well worth following TFFC on Twittter during the season. Please read the Twitter item elsewhere in this edition.

Now on to the two matches. At Clitterhouse Park, a mixed Temple Fortune side, under the banner of the First Team, played a friendly against last season's MSFL Premier Division runners-up Hendon United. The First Team famously beat Hendon 'A' in the Peter Morrison Trophy last season, one of the shock results of the year. But the Premier side made sure there was no repeat by sending out a strong line-up against what was essentially a trial Fortune team missing the majority of last season's successful squad. This could not have been a tougher first game for the mainly untried newcomers and the scratch XI were no match for their superior opponents, losing 7-0.

Said First Team manager Lee Fegan: "It was a very difficult fixture to throw players who had never played together into but this is all a learning curve and shows them what to expect if we are to reach the Premier in time. There were positives to be drawn from it despite the result. But that's why we play these games – to find out what people have to offer."

The Second Team opened their pre-season campaign by playing MSFL Second Division outfit L'Equipe at Woodford Park and produced a very encouraging display to win 5-1 (appearances). Fielding a few new players in the 14-man squad, the Seconds were 4-0 up inside 19 minutes. Debutant SAUL STERN opened the scoring early on, followed by two goals by the ever-green DAVID SAWYER, one a towering header into the far corner. Two other new players, BYRON WATKINS and DAN MARKESON, added to the scoring to make it 5-0 after 30 minutes. Gideon Wetrin's long throws caused havoc in the L'Equipe defence and let to two goals. The home side pulled back a goal just before half-time, with no further goals being added after the interval.

Chairman Nigel Kyte, who refereed the match, said: "I cannot recall a more positive opening performance from the Second Team in all the pre-seasons I have refereed over the years. The team played some good football and fully merited their lead. And when L'Equipe started getting their game together, Fortune dug in hard collectively and gave very little away."

"Although it was a good team display, I thought Adam Field at the back and Dan Markeson were superb in particular," he continued. "Of course, it is only one game and without wishing to go overboard, if the Seconds take this kind of hardworking 'all-for-one-and-one-for-all' mentality into each fixture, the season ahead should be quite interesting."

STILL AWAITING SOME FORMS AND REMITTANCES
Thank you to all those players who have submitted their membership and registration forms and membership fees recently. There are still several who have not returned everything, so if that includes YOU, please sort it out this coming week. Full details of downloading the forms and how to join the Club can be found on the Club Forms page which can be found here. DO NOT DELAY any further, join TODAY!

MIDWEEK TRAINING CLOSE TO BEING SORTED
The Club is close to tying up training for the 2011/12 season and are poised to take a slot on TUESDAY evenings at the London Maccabi Lions sports ground, Rowley Lane, which is located off the A1 near Borehamwood, using a third of the excellent 3G pitch. There will be a separate free for training which can be paid in two installments or as 'pay and play' on the night (which will a dearer way of paying). Full details should be available for inclusion in next Sunday's issue.

THE TFN FANTASY LEAGUE, 2011/12: DEADLINE APPROACHING
A reminder that we are running a new season of TFN FANTASY LEAGUE for the 2011/12 season, which will be our SEVENTH annual competition. The competition starts when the Premier League gets under way which is next weekend, so you still have time to enter a team without losing ground immediately

It's easy to enter on the fantasy.premierleague.com website. In choosing a suitable name, you MUST use Upper and Lower case for both YOUR name (as manager) and the TEAM name – 'Super Stars' is correct, 'super stars' or 'SUPER STARS' is wrong. Any manager or team name which does not follow this will be deleted.

Once you have formed your team and chosen the squad, go to LEAGUES, click on 'Join a league', then 'Private league' and enter the following Private League code: 57173-21943. You can follow your fantasy team's progress each week via the fantasy.premierleague.com website. There willl be a trophy at the end of the season and all-time listing on the Club' website as a CHAMPION! Last season we had a record entry of 37 people so come on, give it a go!

CHANGE IN MSFL DIVISION FOUR
Heath Banta withdrew from the Third Division during the last week, creating an extra space which was filled by Hendon United Sports C from Division 4. That leaves a round 10 in the Fourth Division and they are as follows: Athletic Bilbaum, Athletico Finchley, Boca Jewniors, Brady Maccabi B, Brixton Old Boys B, FC Team C, Jewventus, North London Raiders C, SPEC,
Temple Fortune B.

WISHING ROB JAY 'LONG LIFE'
Changing the mood completed we would like to send our sincerest condolences to Second Team defender ROB JAY who lost his grandfather over the weekend.

OLIVER HARRIS BANNED
It's not often that the Club has to take action against a player for breaching the Conditions of Membership but once in a blue moon we have no option. This applied to OLIVER HARRIS who joined us last season, playing five games for the Second Team, one as a sub. During his short time with us, he was sent off on his debut, picked up a yellow card in another game and then broke a leg when playing in goal, quite an eventful stint if nothing else! Ollie failed to pay the fine for his booking, choosing to ignore several requests. This is a clear breach of the Conditions he agreed to adhere to when joining as a member, which is misconduct in its own right. Although he is recovering from his injury, he will be facing a permanent ban from the MSFL because of his debt with a member club. His financial liability to the Club stands at £32.

A MATCH IN MEMORY OF PETER MOSS
We are pleased to publicise the event below being held in the memory of the late PETER MOSS, who was tradically killed by a bomb blast whilst he was abroad. Peter played Maccabi football for many years – originally with Bar Kochba FC – and was a hugely popular individual.

For tickets, please email me (fearl1@hotmail.com) or Mitch young (mitchyoung10@hotmail.com)

The match, in assosiation with the charity JAMI, where he regularly volunteered and spent so much time fund raising, is aimed to remember and celebrate what a great man Peter was, whilst also allowing us to raise money for the charity closest to his heart and also towards running his beloved club. We hope you will support this cause as much as we are and will help us make this a special day that will be remebered for the right reasons. Everyone is welcome to attend the match. Tickets are a £10 minimum donation.

The organisers (FC Team FC) will be holding an auction after the match in the function room, where everyone will get a chance to meet the players and bid on some great prizes.

NEW DISCIPLINARY PAGE ON WEBSITE
To maintain a record of suspensions, I have introduced a new feature on the website which is as clear-cut to follow as anything. The disciplinary table will show each player sent off and suspended alongside a week-by-week calendar, with suspensions clearly marked in addition to fines, yellow cards, payments received or outstanding. And Club fines will be logged as well. The table provides a very useful reference for Team Secretaries monitoring a player's availability when suspended. To get to the page, click on any of the Team Page links shown above in the 'Fortune Pre-Seasons' panel, and then click on 'DISCIPLINARY TABLE'.
