News, views and everything TFFC by Nigel Kyte

Welcome to issue 19 of the newsletter
With goalkeepers Steve Murad, Roni Stone and Adam Glekin all unavailable, fourth choice 'keeper Lee Fegan, the First Team manager, had to pull on the gloves in the Peter Morrison Trophy second round tie against Division 2 leaders CAMDEN PARK at South Oxhey Playing Fields. And it was Lee's two great penalty stops, one in normal time and the other during the penalty shoot-out, which greatly assisted the First Team's progression into the third round for the first time since 1995, following a 1-1 draw after extra time. Well done, in particular to Second Team players Ben David and Ashley Levy who stepped in to help a depleted First Team, and were part of a memorable victory when the Firsts were really up against it! Temple Fortune avenged a penalties defeat against the same opposition in 2002 in the same round of the Morrison Trophy. The score? 1-1 after extra time!

CONGRATULATIONS TO DEAN INGRAM
A big muzzeltov to Second Team midfielder DEAN INGRAM who has become the 21st player to reach 200 appearances for Temple Fortune. Dean, who has one of the hardest shots in Maccabi football and has scored several blockbusters for Fortune over the years, joined the Club in 2000 after playing for Stamford Hill Old Boys for several seasons. He reached 100 appearances during the 2006/07 season. Dean is a former Second Team leading goalscorer and has once won the Club's Football Quiz competition. Now he is a double centurion for Temple Fortune so well done, Dean Ingram!

Back to the football coverage for Sunday 13th November, my thanks go to Jack Morris for the following match report. After going one up through a Matt Gilbery header, the First Team then conceded a first half penalty which Lee managed to save. Camden threw everything at Fortune but Lee in goal made another great save, but the team finally let in the equaliser midway through the second half. The Firsts then dug in deep without offering too much going forward, and held out for the penalty shootout after extra time. Lee Fegan saved the fourth Camden penalty before Second Team player Ben David had the guts to step up and convert Fortune's fifth kick. The other penalty scorers were Brett Stead, Rob Benson, Jeff Bathija and Jason Miller.

Jack commented about the win: "I don't really know how we won this match as we had a severely depleted squad and had to play Lee in goal! We also had to call up two 'B' team players and play a couple of players with knocks, as we really didn't want to concede the tie. I have to give great credit to my team who all defended superbly and this was probably our most satisfying victory of the season. The spirit of the players was superb and the effort was magnificent from everyone." Pointing out a couple of star performers, Jack continued: "Also like to praise Jason Miller who was forced into central midfield and was fantastic. Benji Mannheim was also once again a rock at centre back. But a special mention to Lee who played like he's always been a 'keeper!"

Said a delighted Lee Fegan: "Full credit to all our players today. We knew we didn't have a full strength team but the guys rose to the challenge and gave their all. Camden are a very good and well organised team but we defended superbly. It was a good feeling to win the penalty shoot-out – I lost one against East London Knights a few seasons back. Today wasn't about me saving penalties, it was about the team digging in deeply to grind out a result and we did that very well."

The First Team meet fellow-Division 2 side Southgate Harmen 'B' – with whom they have shared two league draws this season – in the last 32. Who wouldn't bet on another tight game with possible extra time and penalties? But no worries, we've got Lee Fegan! (No offence to the other three goalkeepers, of course!)

The
SECOND TEAM had a quick rematch with ATHLETICO FINCHLEY in a Division 4 fixture at Gosling just a fortnight after losing to them 6-2 in the away fixture. But this time, the home team gained revenge by winning 2-1, thanks to two goals by striker JOEY GLYNNE. Here Second Team assistant manager Adam Glekin gives his match report for which I thank him.

An expertly taken double by Joey Glynne gave Temple Fortune 'B' a valuable 2-1 victory over Atletico Finchley. After being thrashed 6-2 by Finchley a few weeks ago, Fortune came into the game with a point to prove and were delighted to prevail in a largely scrappy encounter. Finchley took the lead midway through the first half thanks to a fine individual goal, and looked the better side early on. However, Fortune worked their way back into the game and were unfortunate not to equalise when player-manager and top scorer Terry Jeffries suffered a rare failure from the penalty spot when he had his tame effort saved.

Fortune continued to press and were rewarded when JOEY GLYNNE dribbled past the defence and slotted home just before half time. Chances were few and far between in the second half, but Fortune snatched the win late on when Finchley failed to clear their lines from a free kick, and GLYNNE once again was the right man in the right place to plant a pinpoint header into the corner.

Adam Glekin said about the tight win: "It was a very pleasing victory against difficult opposition, despite it not being pretty for long periods. I thought our back four were excellent – we limited them to very few chances."

The
OLD BOYS TEAM met highly-placed LONDON MACCABI LIONS in a Masters Division 2 fixture at the Thomas Parmiter Sports Centre. Despite a stirring effort, Fortune narrowly lost 3-2, a win which put the Lions top on goal difference. ALLON SCHICK-MAIER netted a pair of goals for the Old Boys. Said midfielder Peter Kyte: "We just lost 3-2... we played so well and battled so hard, it was a real pity we didn't get the result we deserved. Everyone played as a team unit and the result made a real mockery of the 9-3 defeat against Hendon when we were appalling. We proved we can do it so long may it continue!"

PUNCTUALITY ESSENTIAL
Another reminder that you are requested to be at the venue NO LATER than 30 minutes before the kick-off. Anything after that is LATE. This applies to all three of our teams and fines will be imposed on repeated late-comers. Please take the time to click here and read the information carefully. TFFC TRAINING ON TUESDAY: PLEASE ATTEND!
MIDWEEK TRAINING CONTINUES ON TUESDAY AT LONDON MACCABI LIONS SPORTS GROUND, ROWLEY LANE, BARNET, AT 9PM. As you know, the Club has booked a third of the excellent London Maccabi Lions 3G pitch on Tuesday evenings at 9pm for an hour so please make every effort to attend. There will be a separate fee for training which can be paid in two installments or as 'pay and play' on the night (which will a dearer way of paying). Please email Jack Morris to confirm your attendance and to arrange your installment payment. The 3G takes moulded boots or astro trainers but not screw-in studs. If you are attending, please be there ON TIME.

NEW DISCIPLINARY PAGE ON WEBSITE
To maintain a record of suspensions, I have introduced a new feature on the website which is as clear-cut to follow as anything. The disciplinary table will show each player sent off and suspended alongside a week-by-week calendar, with suspensions clearly marked in addition to fines, yellow cards, payments received or outstanding. And Club fines will be logged as well. The table provides a very useful reference for Team Secretaries monitoring a player's availability when suspended. To get to the page, click on any of the Team Page links shown above in the 'Fortune Pre-Seasons' panel, and then click on 'DISCIPLINARY TABLE'.

ABUSE THE REF MEANS A FOUR MATCH BAN
The Club will be making a point of drumming into all our players that abusing a match official will NOT be tolerated and will earn any offender a ban of FOUR MATCHES. A reminder will be emailed from time to time to everyone in the shape of examples of things you could say to a referee and be sent off. Some of the jpegs you will find amusing but the serious message is always the same – ABUSE THE REF = FOUR MATCH BAN.

MACCABI FOOTBALL REVIEW
MSFL review by Danny Caro, www.thejc.com/msfl
MSFL FIRST DIVISION
CHIGWELL ATHLETIC 2, BRIXTON OLD BOYS 'A' 3
Brixton blew the title race wide open with a thrilling victory over promotion rivals Chigwell at Peter May Sports Centre in Walthamstow. Strikes from Michael Posner (2) and George Fierstone proved decisive. Chigwell finished the match with nine men - Anthony Mendel was dismissed after 65 minutes following two yellow cards while player-manager Richard Slater received a straight red for a professional foul as last man 10 minutes from time.
MONTANA BOCA UNITED 1, REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE 'B' 5
A hat-trick from Dan Orgel boosted Redbridge's promotion hopes as they proved too strong for Montana. Redbridge really looked the part with goals from Grant Harrison and Adam Goldman completing the rout. Former Fortune midfielder Virgil Levy grabbed a consolation for Montana.
NORTH WEST NEASDEN B 5 WOODFORD WANDERERS 3
Neasden B won an eight-goal thriller against relegation rivals Woodford. Goals from Jonny Blain, Matt Sofier, Mark Lazare, Adam Paris and Ricky Engleman clinched the points for Daniel Hodes' troops.
SOUTHGATE HARMEN 'B' 3, NORSTAR 'A' 4
Another double from Adam Jason extended Norstar A's perfect start to the season as they won a seven-goal thriller against Harmen B at Ashmole. Further strikes from Jonny Isbitt and Eli Houri clinched the points as Phil Peters' men went clear at the top of the table. Harmen's goals came through Paul Stein, Dan Amram and Darren Gale.

MSFL FOURTH DIVISION
BRADY MACCABI 'B' 8, BOCA JEWNIORS 1
Doubles from James Joseph and Daniel Hildebrand eased Brady 'B' to their sixth straight victory as they swept aside Boca at Rowley Lane. Player-manager Josh Dagul, Oli Colmans, Jason Davis and an own goal sealed the win as Brady struck eight for the second consecutive week to keep the pressure on at the top of the table.
BRIXTON OLD BOYS 'B' 0, NORTH LONDON RAIDERS 'C' 6
A treble from Ben Hart kept leaders Raiders 'C' three points clear at the top as they registered their seventh straight victory. Two from Rob Samuelson and one from James Sandrove finished the job.
FC TEAM 'C' 1, JEWVENTUS 2
Goals from Gary Conway and Guy Orr saw Gabriel John's men notch up a third straight win as they edged past FC Team 'C'. FC Team's goal came through Cohen.
SPEC 1, ATHLETIC BILBAUM 1
Promotion rivals SPEC and Bilbaum finished all square after a great battle in Hatfield. Murray was the scorer for the home side. Bilbaum player-manager Mark Pasha replied.

MASTERS SECOND DIVISION
Two goals apiece for Phil Silver, Marc Schneiderman and guest Ashley Marks saw EDRS to a comfortable 6-0 win over Glenthorne 'C'.
Meanwhile, London Maccabi Lions moved to the top of the table, albeit on goal difference and having played two games more than Glenthorne 'B'. Their 3-2 win over Temple Fortune came courtesy of goals from Mark Rose, Mark Jacob and Lee Cohen, whilst Allon Schick-Maier struck twice for Fortune.
Ashlodge recorded a 4-0 win over Marshside thanks to goals from Geoff Isaacs (ex-Fortune), Simon Pampel and a brace from John Seigal.
