FORTUNETELLER

News, views and everything TFFC by Nigel Kyte

Welcome to issue 27 of the newsletter
It's always difficult refereeing a match with Temple Fortune playing on the adjacent pitch. At every opportunity during stoppages in my Masters fixture between Brady and South Mancs I was glancing over to the 3G nearest the railway line hoping that the First Team were doing well. Of the snippets of action I witnessed, I saw a fantastic smothering save by Steve Murad in the second half after a Redbridge player broke through. And I was lucky enough to catch Michael Goldberg's breakaway run just after my match had finished. He took the ball towards a back-peddling defender and slipped it across for PAUL RUBENSTEIN to tap home for the decisive second goal. I was cheering along with the rest of the Fortune contingent in front of me on the touchline.

Minutes later, the full time whistle sounded and the boys in the 'emergency' yellow and red kit celebrated an excellent victory over the First Division leaders REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE 'B'. After a goalless first half, the crucial opening goal came some 18 minutes from the end when JOSH MARKS netted following excellent work by Michael Goldberg (which I read in the JC report!) I heard the cheers during my game and turned to see Fortune players running over to jump on Josh. Former Redbridge defender Josh Tiano was really pumped up in particular after the game; he obviously enjoyed putting one over his old team-mates!

A jubilant First Team manager Lee Fegan said over a celebratory pint with Mike Shorvon and myself: "This has got to be one of our best results we've had in the league for a while. We battled straight from the start and everyone stuck to the plan. The end result showed the hard work we put in. We won all the individual battles and I cannot praise the players enough. Brilliant team performance which shows what we can achieve when everyone gives their all." Also buzzing was assistant manager Jack Morris who commented: "After two defeats in a row, this is a massive win for us, but we must follow this up with another win next week. We weren't given a hope by many so to come away with three points is extremely satisfying."

In complete contrast, I heard the Redbridge manager really tear into his players as I collected my holdall. He started with "I've given up work to be here for THIS!" I won't say any more of what he said but let's just say that he wasn't very happy! For me personally, seeing the joy from players representing Temple Fortune, I realise why doing all the hard work is well worthwhile. It's brilliant times like this that bring warm glows to everyone involved. Let's hope that this splendid pick-me-up is reflected right through the rest of the Club in the weeks to come.

The Second Team and Old Boys Team did not play.

FIRST TEAM REPLACEMENT KIT ORDERED
A replacement kit has been ordered for the First Team after the previous one had been stolen from Matt Gilbery's car. The kit will be in the same style as the other one with one difference – replacing the '35 Years in the MSFL' Club crest is the new one introduced this season, which carries two gold stars representing our two MSFL championships wins (as seen on the website home page). I reckon the kit should be ready in about two weeks all things being well.

NEW KIT SPONSORSHIP REQUIRED
On the subject of a new kit, I have come across a strikingly modern playing kit in TFFC's traditional yellow and red colours, pictured below. I have rarely seen such an attractive innovative design and it would make an ideal Club shirt. The kit is being sold in a January sale by Prosoccer UK (who provided the First XI Daniel Stewart & Co kit) and provides an opportunity for anyone keen to sponsor a kit to do so at a very reasonable price. The Second Team need a new playing kit so if there is someone who is interested in sponsoring one sooner rather than later (before they run out of stock or the offer ends), please contact me without delay for a quote.

INTER-CLUB QUIZ RESUMES ON 22 JANUARY
Round Four of this season's inter-Club football quiz will be starting on Sunday 22 January. The quarter-final line-up is as follows:
ALAN HAROUNOFF versus BRYAN SILVER
MARTIN COLLINS versus TONY HIRSCHSTEIN
JACK MORRIS versus LEE FEGAN
DEAN INGRAM versus JONATHAN COHEN

FORTUNE PLAY BRADY 'A' IN THE PMT LAST 16
The First Team were the first team to reach the Last 16 of the Peter Morrison Trophy after defeating Southgate Harmen 'B' at Ashmole School. They have been drawn against Premier Division BRADY MACCABI 'A' in Round 4 which is due to be played on Sunday 29th January. To demonstrate the difficulty of Fortune's task ahead, today Brady Maccabi beat reigning MSFL Premier Division champions Redbridge by 2-0. Previous Brady v Temple Fortune games in the PMT: 1982/83 Southern Area R3, drew 1-1 (AET) Fortune lost on penalties; 1989/90 Southern Area QF, drew 0-0 (AET) Fortune won on penalties.

PUNCTUALITY ESSENTIAL
Another reminder that you are requested to be at the venue NO LATER than 30 minutes before the kick-off. Anything after that is LATE. This applies to all three of our teams and fines will be imposed on repeated late-comers. Please take the time to click here and read the information carefully. LATE PLAYERS will continue to be named and shamed on this page in future and fines/suspensions will be imposed as necessary.

ABUSE THE REF MEANS A FOUR MATCH BAN
The Club has been making a point of drumming into all our players that abusing a match official will NOT be tolerated and will earn any offender a ban of FOUR MATCHES. A reminder will be emailed from time to time to everyone in the shape of examples of things you could say to a referee and be sent off. Some of the jpegs you will find amusing but the serious message is always the same – ABUSE THE REF = FOUR MATCH BAN.

NORTH WEST NEASDEN 'B' 4, SOUTHGATE HARMEN 'B' 2
Neasden 'B' recorded their fourth league win of the season to leapfrog Southgate Harmen 'B' in fifth position. Harmen's goals came through Doron Hershkorn and Dan Amram.
