FIRSTS LOSE TO NWN, SECONDS LET 2-0 LEAD SLIP TO DRAW
WHILST THE OLD BOYS TEAM GO DOWN 2-0 TO BRADY MACCABI 'B'

FORTUNETELLER

News, views and everything TFFC by Nigel Kyte

Welcome to issue 14 of the newsletter
The FIRST TEAM met NORTH WEST NESADEN 'B' at Hadley FC in Arkley – the scene of their superb win against Hendon United 'A' in the Peter Morrison Trophy last season – and were defeated 3-1. A strengthened Neasden side proved to be too strong for Fortune who battled hard and only had PAUL WALKER's equaliser to show for their efforts. The hosts scored twice more to take the points. Said a disappointed Lee Fegan: "The scoreline was rather flattering but I suppose they deserved to win. Our workrate needs to improve but I don't like to dwell on results so we can only learn from it. I'm pleased we've got a cup game in our next fixture although SPEC will give us a hard game I'm sure."

The SECOND TEAM's 100% start to the season ended, as a late equaliser gave ATHLETICO BILBAUM a 2-2 draw at Gosling in a bruising battle. Fortune took the lead midway through the first half thanks to a superb 35-yard free kick from player manager TERRY JEFFRIES which sailed over the goalkeeper and into the top corner. Fortune quickly extended their lead, when Dave Sawyer flicked on a long throw and JEFFRIES was once again on hand to tap home at the far post, taking his tally to 11 for the season. Bilbaum came out strongly in the second half and pulled a goal back, before a sickening clash of heads between Sawyer and a Bilbaum midfielder saw the game delayed for almost half an hour while an ambulance made its way to the ground to take the latter to a hospital. Sawyer battled on bravely with a bump on his forehead, but Fortune were denied the points when Bilbaum equalised 3 minutes from time.

Said assistant manager Adam Glekin: "Obviously it was disappointing to concede so late and only come away with a draw after leading 2-0, but you can't really deny they deserved a point. I thought our defence was outstanding, they soaked up a lot of pressure and Phil Small made a couple of great saves. Several players picked up knocks, so I wish speedy recoveries to Dave Sawyer, Adam Field and Phil Small." MSFL Chairman David Wolff watched the match and said afterwards: "It was a very good game of football and I enjoyed it. Bilbaum did well to take a draw but full credit to both teams."

Missing leading goalscorer Yali Mamouri, who had scored hat-tricks in the past two fixtures, the OLD BOYS TEAM played BRADY MACCABI 'B' – whom they had beaten twice last season by 3-0 – on the 3G at The Hive. After a close first half in which Fortune might have snatched the lead, it was Brady who scored a couple of goals to take the match 2-0. The match saw the return of Phil Bloomberg, who had completed his 5-week suspension following a sending off against the same opposition last season, and he maked the occasion with a booking! Said Old Boys manager David Goldberg: "Another disappointing performance matched by the result. We have a few players who seem to be too half-hearted. You cannot win matches without giving 100% and I'm finding it all very frustrating. A few run their hearts out like Graham Meyer but we all need to pull together if we are going to turn this around."

HELPING YOU TO NAVIGATE THE TFFC WEBSITE
A member of the First Team, who is into his second season with the Club, emailed me last week asking where can he find the fixtures. I realise that the website is quite large and that if you are not familiar with its navigation it can take time to locate what you want to see. But for basic information such as fixtures I do not think it is rocket science to locate it! I like to think that all members know where certain sections of info are, such as fixtures, appearances and results, and the weekly newsletter. At the bottom of this issue are some questions and answers to help you navigate the website so if you are one who struggles to find the basics, please scroll down and read the information which you may find helpful.

INTER-CLUB QUIZ STARTS TODAY
It's that time of the year when the Club's popular football quiz starts - for the TENTH season! It's free to enter and there will be a trophy presented at the Club Awards Lunch next June plus an inclusion in the Quiz honours list on the website for all time! Sixty-four Club Members (who were paid-up before 25th September) and certain invited guests have been paired off in Round One and will be emailed 25 questions on Sunday 9th October. The full Round One draw can be found here. And the main Quiz page here.

The onus is on the participant to take part and submit his or her answers – including a tie-break answer – by midnight on Monday 10th October. His or her tally of correct answers will be matched against the score of his or her opponent and the person with the highest points will progress into the next round. Should someone not bother to submit an entry by the deadline stipulated, his or her score will be recorded as nil; if both players in any one tie do not enter, one will progress by a toss of a coin. If two participants who submit entries are level on points, the tie-break will come into operation. The competition will continue with paired-off ties until two eventually reach the Final.

The current Quiz champion is the First Team's JONATHAN COHEN who defeated former Old Boys player PHIL FRIEND by 17-11 in last season's Final. Other former Quiz champs include DEAN INGRAM from the Second Team and DAVID GOLDBERG of the Old Boys Team. The questions next week will be pretty easy but they do get harder as the competition progresses! So check to see who your opponent is and look out for the Round One email which will be sent today. Please make every effort to take part!

DELVING DEEP: A series where we take a look at articles and features deep inside the TFFC website which you may never have seen! THE INTER-CLUB FOOTBALL QUIZ – a history of the annual Quiz which is now celebrating its TENTH season.

WISHING DANIEL NATOFF A SPEEDY RECOVERY
The First Team's DANIEL NATOFF has broken a toe and will be out of action until the New Year. He joins striker BEN ISAACS on the injury list – Ben has been out of action due to cruciate knee ligament problems. We send Dan - and of course Ben – our best wishes for as speedy a return as possible.

GOOD LUCK TO BYRON
The Club has released former Zig Zag striker BYRON WATKINS after a short spell with the Second Team. We wish him the best of luck for the remainder of the season.

BRIXTON SUFFER A FIVE-GOAL SALVO YET AGAIN!
Not since season 1999/00 has a Second Team player scored FIVE goals in a competitive match – Robert Botkai was the last player to achieve it on 12th December 1999. But TERRY JEFFRIES is now the first Second Teamer this century to match this fine feat, hitting his five in last week's 11-2 victory against Brixton Old Boys 'B'. As for Robert, who now plays for the Old Boys Team, he scored his 'nap' a 7-3 win against, by amazing cooincidence, Brixton Old Boys 'B'! The Club's highest wins list has been updated with last week's 11-2 win which sits in eighth place of all-time best victories by Temple Fortune.

THE TFN FANTASY LEAGUE, 2011/12
MARTIN COLLINS, a former player and guest participant, tops the Fantasy League with 395 points, followed by Old Boys Team striker JAMES RYAN who trails by just 5 points. On 386 points is MATT GILBERY of the First Team in third position, whilst former champion MIKE MAXWELL sits in fourth on 377, a point ahead of DAN NISSAN. In sixth position, ADAM GLEKIN is the highest Second Team representative with 372 points. The reigning champion, BEN GLEKIN, is 10th and former champions MARIE KELLY (14th) and LYNNE KYTE (16th) languish further down the 27-strong table, whilst another previous winner, STEVE FEIGER, sits in a 'relegation' spot in 25h place!

TFFC TRAINING ON TUESDAY: PLEASE ATTEND!
MIDWEEK TRAINING CONTINUES ON TUESDAY AT LONDON MACCABI LIONS SPORTS GROUND, ROWLEY LANE, BARNET, AT 9PM. As you know, the Club has booked a third of the excellent London Maccabi Lions 3G pitch on Tuesday evenings at 9pm for an hour so please make every effort to attend. There will be a separate fee for training which can be paid in two installments or as 'pay and play' on the night (which will a dearer way of paying). Please email Jack Morris to confirm your attendance and to arrange your installment payment. The 3G takes moulded boots or astro trainers but not screw-in studs. If you are attending, please be there ON TIME.

ABUSE THE REF MEANS A FOUR MATCH BAN
The Club will be making a point of drumming into all our players that abusing a match official will NOT be tolerated and will earn any offender a ban of FOUR MATCHES. A reminder will be emailed every Friday to everyone in the shape of examples of things you could say to a referee and be sent off. Last week the campaign should have started but because of ongoing admin issues, has been delayed until the week coming. Some ofmthe jpegs you will find amusing but the serious message is always the same – ABUSE THE REF = FOUR MATCH BAN.

PUNCTUALITY IS A MUST
The Old Boys did not get off to the best start in the opening friendly last week against Clayhall both on and off the field of play. Several players arrived late. This is a timely reminder that you are requested to be at the venue NO LATER than 30 minutes before the kick-off. Anything after that is LATE. This applies to all three of our teams and fines will be imposed on repeated late-comers. Lateness affects the team preparation and is NOT acceptable. Please take the time to click here and read the information carefully. LATE PLAYERS will be named and shamed on this page in future.

NEW DISCIPLINARY PAGE ON WEBSITE
To maintain a record of suspensions, I have introduced a new feature on the website which is as clear-cut to follow as anything. The disciplinary table will show each player sent off and suspended alongside a week-by-week calendar, with suspensions clearly marked in addition to fines, yellow cards, payments received or outstanding. And Club fines will be logged as well. The table provides a very useful reference for Team Secretaries monitoring a player's availability when suspended. To get to the page, click on any of the Team Page links shown above in the 'Fortune Pre-Seasons' panel, and then click on 'DISCIPLINARY TABLE'.

FORTUNE FACTS & FIGURES: A series to entice you to study the Club's collection of records and stats over many seasons! A TO Z OF TFFC'S PLAYERS – a list of all known players to have played for the Club up to and including the close of the 2010/11 season.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
The opening paragraph of a match report by someone associated with Athletic Bilbaum on the totallyjewish.com website: "With our bags packed, passports to hand and a brand spanking new set of dinosaur embroidered kits, the Baums set sail northwards for the far away land of Welwyn Garden City... to play Temple Fortune 'B' (work that one out!?)" Well, if 20 minutes on the A1 is "far away", then I cannot wait to read a match report if ever AB play Chigwell, Redbridge or Woodford at Fairlop! An overnight stay at a hotel in Forest Road perhaps?

MACCABI FOOTBALL REVIEW
MSFL review by Danny Caro, Masters review by Jeremy Silverstone
MSFL FIRST DIVISION
CHIGWELL ATHLETIC 5, BRIXTON OLD BOYS 'A' 4
Goals from Antony Mendel, Glenn Michaels, Glenn Davis, Paul Lenchner and Daniel Castle steered Chigwell to a fourth victory of the season after they edged a nine-goal thriller in Palmers Green. Jamie Kent put the visitors ahead a minute before the break and they marched into a 4-1 lead with Rob Hershkorn (2) and Alon Hershkorn finding the net before a Lenchner changed the game after moving up front and Brixton had Michael Posner sent off for two cautionable offences. Castle headed home a sensational 88th minute winner.
NORSTAR 'A' 2, MONTANA BOCA UNITED 0
Norstar made it three out of three with Jonny Kay and Josh Green on target in a hard fought tussle against Montana in Wembley. A wonderful strike from Kay in the first half and a cool finish by Green from a Simon Perlmutter through ball in the second settled it.
NORTH WEST NEASDEN 'B' 3, TEMPLE FORTUNE 'A' 1
Neasden 'B' claimed their first win of the season as they had too much for Temple Fortune. Rob Lerner, Ricky Rinder and Adam Paris were the marksmen for Neasden. Paul Walker found the net for Fortune.
REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE 'B' 2, WOODFORD WANDERERS 0
Redbridge 'B' maintained their perfect start with Mark Zealander and Scott Kay on target to win the east London derby against winless Woodford.
SOUTHGATE HARMEN 'B' 2, OAKWOOD 4
Oakwood had too much for Harmen with Dan Abrams (2), Eddie Mason and Ilan Scorah scoring for the visitors. Harmen's goals came through Dave Marcus and Grant Taylor.

MSFL FOURTH DIVISION
ATHLETIC FINCHLEY 1, FC TEAM 'C' 2
FC Team maintained their positive start with strikes from Worth and Cohen setting up their third win of the season.
JEWVENTUS 2, BRADY MACCABI 'B' 5
Brady 'B' went top of the table on goal difference as they put in a five-star display against a Jewventus team yet to put a point on the board this season. New signing James Alexander and Conway were the goal men for Jewve.
NORTH LONDON RAIDERS 'C' 1, BRIXTON OLD BOYS 'B' 0
A matchwinner from Josh Graham helped high-flying Raiders 'C' made it four out of four as they battled past a spirited Brixton 'B' in Hatfield.
SPEC 3, BOCA JEWNIORS 1
Warming up for the Peter Morrison Trophy tie against Temple Fortune 'A' next week, promotion-chasing SPEC recorded their third win of the season with manager Ricky Lawrence firing a double. The other goal came through Ashley Lawrence.
TEMPLE FORTUNE 'B' 2, ATHLETIC BILBAUM 2
Goal kings Terry Jeffries and Edward Green bagged braces as high-flying Fortune 'B' and Bilbaum finished honours even at Gosling Sports Centre, the away side coming back from 2-0 down thanks to a late equalising goal.

MASTERS SECOND DIVISION
Glenthorne 'B' triumphed in the battle at the top, winning 5-2 over EDRS Stonegrove, the goals coming from Gary Swerner, Adam Lennard, Jon Bolle, Sid Shaw and Adam Hart. EDRS replied with a free-kick from Gary Shaw, and a goal from Phil Silver.
Brady Maccabi 'B'
moved into second place with a 2-0 win over Temple Fortune Old Boys, Roger Kay putting Brady ahead, and new signing Danny Fenton wrapping things up with a thunderous free kick on his debut.
And despite going behind to a drive from Glenthorne 'C's Nick Pitch, Clayhall Park Casuals kept up their challenge with a 3-1 win, as Barry Barnett equalised with a penalty, then scored again with a powerful shot to give Clayhall the lead, before Gary Rowland made the points safe with a scorching drive.

NAVIGATING THE WEBSITE: A few questions and answers to help you!
Since we have quite a few newcomers amongst us, and because at least one member from last season still doesn't know where to locate First Team fixtures, below are a few questions and answers which should help even the most myopic amongst us!

Q. Where can I find my team's fixtures and results?
A. Two ways - (1) There is a link to each team's page on the website home page (www.tffc.co.uk) under the Club crest located top right. You will see First Team, Second Team and Old Boys Team. (2) If you read the weekly newsletter, the links are directly under each team's information panel under 'Fortune Round-up', which is at the top of the right hand column.

Q. Where can I find my team's appearances list?
A. Each team has ongoing appearances marked for every match played. Go to your team page and click on 'Appearances' which is above the fixtures/results section. Each appearance in the starting eleven is coloured orange and each appearance as a substitute is coloured blue. The figures inside the appearances boxes are the number of goals scored. These stats are totalled up at the end of the season.

Q. Where can I find my team's goalscorers?
A. Two ways - (1) On the team page via the fixtures/results section. You will see goalscorers listed after each result. (2) On the appearances page. See previous answer above.

Q. I've been sent off. Where can I find details of my suspension and fine?
A. On the 'Disciplinary Table' which is located via your team page. You will find the link above the fixtures/results section.

Q. Where do I find the Club's weekly newsletter?
A. Two ways - (1) On the home page under 'Players' Section', the newsletter is located under 'Club Membership'. Click on 'The Fortune News'. (2) Each newly updated issue is publicised via a weekly email informing you that the newsletter has been updated.

A. Under the 'Club Records' section you will see an index covering numerous records, including a results archive. There is also a section featuring the 'Roll of Honour Index' covering Club award winners.

Q. Where can I find details of our cup results?
A. Under 'Competitions'. You will also see inter-Club matches, the Football Quiz and the Fantasy League listed in this category.

Q. Has the Club got an honours list?
A. Yes, under 'Welcome to TFFC!' you'll see 'Honours & Achievements', which includes links to various memorable feats by Temple Fortune and individual achievements too.

Q. Can I read about successful seasons in the past?
A. Of course! Check out the 'Best of Fortune' index under 'Inside the Club', which features certain seasons in more specific detail, including articles covering the Club's 'Glory Years'!

Q. I want to delve deeper into the site. Is there an index or site map?
A. On a lot of pages you will see 'Site Contents' at the bottom next to Home. For direct access, click under 'Welcome to TFFC!' and you will see Site Contents listed at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

Q. I want to email one of the Management Committee members. Where can I find his email address?
A. On the newsletter 'The Fortune News', scroll to the bottom and you will find a list of email addresses. This appears on all weekly issues.

Q. Is there a quick way to email the Club?
A. Yes. Home page, bottom right... there is a link to info@tffc.co.uk.

Q. Are there a Welcome page, sponsors' page and list of Officers page?
A. Yes. All three feature under 'Welcome to TFFC!', together with a comprehensive 'Club History' section containing numerous pages. Oh, and there's even a list of all serving Officers since the Club first began - this appears under 'Management Committee' at the bottom of the page.

Basically, this website exists as an ongoing archive of everything to do with the TFFC and includes a lot of information. So please make use of it and if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me. The catch-phrase for the TFFC website is 'Info galore and a lot lot more'... and it's very true if you bother to look!
