News, views and everything TFFC by Nigel Kyte
Welcome to issue 6 of the newsletter
Week two of pre-season friendlies saw the our two MSFL teams matching last week's outcome one win and one defeat. Before I cover the two matches played, a mention that we have secured a great new training venue and urge as many Club Members as possible to take advantage by attending regularly. We have hired a third of the 3G pitch on Tuesday evenings for an hour at the London Maccabi Lions sports ground in Rowley Lane, not far from the A1 near Arkley. The facilities are far better than those we had at Middlesex University in Hendon and the Powerleague in Mill Hill which was a possibility. Below you can read a bit more about the training but I must stress that we need YOUR support to make this viable. If you do not give commitment to training, we will not rebook it when the time comes. Finally on this subject, the facilities are also open to our Old Boys players so if you are a registered Temple Fortune player, GET FIT, GET TRAINING!
The SECOND TEAM got off to their best winning start for years by smashing Maccabi Masters Division 2 side EDRS Stonegrove by 7-0 at Parmiters, making it a round dozen of goals so far! Last season, the First Team put 11 past EDRS but the Seconds also proved to be far too strong for them and cantered home in fine style. The scorers were Dave Sawyer (2), Terry Jeffries (back from injury), Dean Ingram, Marc Herman, Byron Watkins and Jeremy Barnett. I haven't received a quote from TJ or Adam G but I'm sure they are delighted with the Second Team's start.
The FIRST TEAM, again including quite a few potential newcomers in the 16-man squad, took on MSFL Premier Division FC Team at the Roger Bannister Sports Centre and lost 5-0. After a bright start by Fortune, FC Team took control and two early defensive blunders gifted them a 2-0 lead which was extended right on half time. Within 15 minutes of the second half, the home side, who were much stronger all round, were five up and thereafter it was damage limitation for a well out-of-sorts Fortune team.
Said First Team manager Lee Fegan: "Disappointing, of course, but the purpose of these games is to see what players can do. It's important for them to get to know each other and we could not have had two tougher games so I am not too despondent. We have some very good players and hopefully they will start to blend in the remaining friendlies. These games are to try out players and positions and that's what we have been doing."
STILL A FEW FORMS AND REMITTANCES NEEDED
Thank you to all those players who have submitted their membership and registration forms and membership fees recently. There are still several who have not returned everything, so if that includes YOU, please sort it out this coming week. Full details of downloading the forms and how to join the Club can be found on the Club Forms page which can be found here. DO NOT DELAY any further, join TODAY!
MIDWEEK TRAINING ON THE LML 3G
The Club has booked a third of the excellent London Maccabi Lions 3G pitch on Tuesday evenings at 9pm for an hour starting TUESDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER so please make a note in your diary. There will be a separate fee for training which can be paid in two installments or as 'pay and play' on the night (which will a dearer way of paying). If you wish to attend training, please email Jack Morris for full details.
THE TFN FANTASY LEAGUE, 2011/12: STILL OPEN TO ENTER
A reminder that we are running a new season of TFN FANTASY LEAGUE for the 2011/12 season, which will be our SEVENTH annual competition. It's easy to enter on the fantasy.premierleague.com website. In choosing a suitable name, you MUST use Upper and Lower case for both YOUR name (as manager) and the TEAM name 'Super Stars' is correct, 'super stars' or 'SUPER STARS' is wrong. Any manager or team name which does not follow this will be deleted. Once you have formed your team and chosen the squad, go to LEAGUES, click on 'Join a league', then 'Private league' and enter the following Private League code: 57173-21943. There willl be a trophy at the end of the season and all-time listing on the Club' website as a CHAMPION! Last season we had a record entry of 37 people so come on, give it a go!
CHANGE IN MSFL DIVISION FOUR
Heath Banta withdrew from the Third Division during the last week, creating an extra space which was filled by Hendon United Sports C from Division 4. That leaves a round 10 in the Fourth Division and they are as follows: Athletic Bilbaum, Athletico Finchley, Boca Jewniors, Brady Maccabi B, Brixton Old Boys B, FC Team C, Jewventus, North London Raiders C, SPEC, Temple Fortune B.

NEW DISCIPLINARY PAGE ON WEBSITE
To maintain a record of suspensions, I have introduced a new feature on the website which is as clear-cut to follow as anything. The disciplinary table will show each player sent off and suspended alongside a week-by-week calendar, with suspensions clearly marked in addition to fines, yellow cards, payments received or outstanding. And Club fines will be logged as well. The table provides a very useful reference for Team Secretaries monitoring a player's availability when suspended. To get to the page, click on any of the Team Page links shown above in the 'Fortune Pre-Seasons' panel, and then click on 'DISCIPLINARY TABLE'.

MSFL FIRST DIVISION PREVIEW (with acknowledgemenst to Danny Caro at thejc.com)
BRIXTON OLD BOYS A
Competitions entered: the two Jewish cups and the Sunday FA Cup.
Hopes for the season: It is not a question of hope but a must we will be promoted to the premiership and I want to win a cup nothing more!
What will your team will bring to the league this season? Excitement and football we will be talked about.
New signings: I have made some new signings but will surprise all at the beginning of the season however the majority of the players are the same as last year.
Have any players left? Not sure if any players have decided to leave yet as we are now running two teams A’s and B’s so we will have to wait and see.
Who is the captain? My captain is Rob Blackman and vice captain is Ed Weiz.
Which teams do you think will be the main challengers in your division? I do not know and quite honestly do not care. All I am interested in is how my team does.
Ones to watch: You will have to wait and see.
Do you have any outstanding youngsters in the squad? Again, wait and see.
Are you still looking to strengthen? If so, in which positions? I will look at all newcomers as the competition for places this season is high.
Home ground: Our home pitch is Clowes in Palmers Green
Sponsors: None
Describe your club in one sentence, what would it be? Winners!
What do you love about the MSFL? I’ve been involved too long to give a description.
---------------------------------------
CHIGWELL ATHLETIC
Competitions entered: League, Anekstein and Morrison
Hopes for the season: The Division One title. If we manage to keep a fit squad throughout the season I believe we’ll be in the mix for sure. The club has won every other lower league, but the title has slipped away twice now.
What will your team will bring to the league this season? Goals and a fun bus for all to enjoy.
New signings: Lee Hyams, Lloyd Becker, Alex Norman all from Southgate Harmen. Antony Mendel from RJC and Jamie Fox, plus one more to follow.
Players out Sam Rosenthal (Glenthorne B), Adam Shafron (Glenthorne A), Dean Ben Yosef (Lions A), Russell Becker (retired)
Who is the captain? Daniel Castle
Main challengers Brixton A, Norstar A, Oakwood
Ones to watch: Glenn Michaels, Craig Pearl, Daniel Castle, Alex Norman, Antony Mendel
Do you have any outstanding youngsters in the squad? Adam Goodman - a great find midway through last season, with bags of trickery and pace to burn.
Are you still looking to strengthen? If so, in which positions? Always looking to improve the squad with the right additions, but I’m also very, very happy with the players we’ve managed to bring in.
Home ground: Peter May Sports Centre
Sponsor: Richman Junior, Kit Sponsor: The Jewish Chronicle
Describe your club in one sentence: An organised club always looking to do that bit extra for its players and having a great laugh in the process.
What do you love about the MSFL? The eggs were born.
---------------------------------------
MONTANA BOCA UNITED
Competitions entered: Peter Morrison Trophy, Cyril Anekstein and Maccabi League
Hopes for the season: Promotion
What will your team will bring to the league this season? Montana’s good work ethic and commitment
New signings: Jordan Segal, Mitch Green (FC Team A), Blake Buckman, Nathan Harrod, Mike Perkin, Jacob Webb, Simon Lindell, Elliot Kennard, Josh Greenham
Players out Simon Peterman
Who is the captain? Adam Osper
Main challengers Neasden B and Oakwood
Ones to watch: Jordan Segal, Mitch Green, Mike Perkin
Do you have any outstanding youngsters in the squad? Nathan Harrod, Jordan Segal
Are you still looking to strengthen? If so, in which positions? We’re still looking to strengthen up front, and possibly another centre back. We’re also in negotiations with Sheikh Mychallah regarding sponsorship.
Home ground: The Hive
Sponsors: None
Describe your club in one sentence: Can beat anyone on our day
What do you love about the MSFL? It’s a very well-organised league with outstanding contributions from the committee and top-class referees
---------------------------------------
NORSTAR A
Competitions entered: In addition to the usual Jewish competitions, Norstar A will be entering the London FA Sunday Cup either in the Junior or Intermediate category depending on where the FA places us ...
Hopes for the season: After three successive promotions, the romantics at the club are hoping for another promotion at the first time of asking. The realists think we should aim for mid-table this year and then mount a title-charge next season. As far as I’m concerned, we have a squad that are talented enough to go up again particularly as we’ve got a lot of players returning this season and if we keep everyone fit we might be able to challenge for the title as well.
What will your team will bring to the league this season? When you come to play us this season it will be the closest you’ll ever get to playing at Wembley Stadium.
New signings: We’ve made a couple of signings so far and have a couple more to tie-up before the season begins. Josh Pistol comes in, as does Jeff Gotch from Inter Borehamwood.
Players out Nick Hudson’s taken early retirement due to recurring injuries and relocation. Zak McLeod has left to join Zenit St. Whetstone. Both will be sorely missed and we wish them well.
Who is the captain? Jeremy Elster remains club captain for a second season.
Main challengers It’s looking like being a very strong division next year. Oakwood will be very hard to beat as always and Neasden B will be strong. There wasn’t much in it between the top four in Division 2 last season so it will be interesting to see how we all do but I think there are six or seven teams that could be in the mix come the end of the season.
Ones to watch: Last season’s player of the year Ben De La Fuente will be looking to retain his title. He’s signed a new long-term contract and we’ve fended off interest from London Lions and FC Team for him. Josh Green returns from a spell in the B team last season and will be looking to prove a point whilst having the two Jonnies (Kay and Peters) back to full fitness will be crucial to the promotion push. Expect Eli Houri to be competing for the golden boot.
Do you have any outstanding youngsters in the squad? That depends on your definition of a youngster Ben Eliad should be featuring a little more this season than last. He’s probably still 17. New centre-back Josh Pistol recently celebrated his 21st birthday.
Are you still looking to strengthen? If so, in which positions? Always on the lookout for exceptional talent. It’s good to keep people fighting for their places no one should be too comfortable.
Home ground: Home games will be played at the Ark Academy in Wembley. It’s a sensational new all-weather facility which should keep us playing regularly through the winter. The Wembley Arch provides a great backdrop for a team photo so opposition teams should definitely bring their cameras.
Sponsors: Norstar A will be sponsored by Green & Co this season and we will release more details on the deal in the coming weeks.
Describe your club in one sentence: We’ve never claimed to be the best team in the league but after three-straight promotions it’s clear that something good is happening at Norstar A and we’re attracted by the smell of Premiership football.
What do you love about the MSFL? There’s just nothing else in the world that would get me out of bed before 9am on a Sunday morning.
---------------------------------------
OAK WOOD
Competitions entered: Morrison, CA Cup and the league. The holy trinity.
Hopes for the season: To improve. That’s all I really care about the rest will take care of itself. We want to go up but you can get obsessed with that and it becomes an unhealthy obsession. So we’ll focus on just training, playing our football and improving. What I desperately hope is that, unlike the past few seasons, we are not six games behind everyone else come January. That never helps!
What will your team will bring to the league this season? Northern grit and the ability to get stuck in.
New signings: Yes. James Abrams from Liverpool via Neasden. Exudes class and has the experience we lacked at times last season. He’ll be a big player for us this year. Working on two signings but can’t say who yet I’m afraid.
Players out Not that I’m aware of. Some of them keep trying but I keep picking them so they turn up anyway.
Who is the captain? Do you know Adam Levine?
Main challengers Everyone. That’s what Division One is about. Anyone can beat anyone on their day. We are ready for that. No easy games.
Ones to watch: Dan Ash and Dan Rose are back from year-long knee injuries. If they can stay fit they will fly. I’m excited to see them play again. When Josh Rubin gets back from his knee op we will have an outstanding trio of players to rely on.
Do you have any outstanding youngsters in the squad? Apart from the likes of myself and Eddie Manson, no.
Are you still looking to strengthen? If so, in which positions? We are always looking for players that will improve us. If you’re out there get in touch. If you can score goals even better.
Home ground: Parmiters
Sponsors: Bond Traders
Describe your club in one sentence: The best of all the Jews in all the land.
What do you love about the MSFL? The coverage from the JC. And that is not a suck up line. It’s the best thing about playing in this league.
---------------------------------------
TEMPLE FORTUNE A
Competitions entered: Temple Fortune’s First Team will be taking part in the MSFL First Division, the CA Cup and Peter Morrison Trophy this coming season.
Hopes for the season: We are under no illusions that the First Division will be extremely tough. When Temple Fortune last won the Division 2 championship in 1986, we held our own in the division above the next season and were then promoted to the Premier Division a year after that. So following on in that mould, stability and survival in Division 1 will be the main objective, a promotion push being very much a bonus.
What will your team will bring to the league this season? Our ‘A’ team is a very competitive unit, hard to beat and never give up. But then most of the opposition in Division 1 could say the same so we know that we are set for a very hard campaign!
New signings: A few players have joined us, notably three from L’Equipe but we do not wish to disclose names particularly. We are trying out several others during our pre-season friendlies so watch this space!
Have any players left? Players come, players go again it’s immaterial who has left. We are more focused on who we have in the squad.
Who is the captain? Paul Walker is the new First Team captain, a role he has done before. Paul is a leader and winner so there were no qualms in giving him the armband again. The vice captain is Daniel Natoff.
Which teams do you think will be the main challengers in your division? It’s probably quicker to name those that WON’T be main challengers and looking at the many decent teams filling the First Division, we are struggling to find one! As we say, this is one tough collection of teams and it’s going to be difficult to single out who will be challenging.
Ones to watch: We think it’s unfair to single out anyone in particular because the emphasis upon this unit of players is to compete very much as a team. And do we really want to point out the ‘ones to watch’ to the opposition? Let them find out for themselves when we play them!
Do you have any outstanding youngsters in the squad? None that we wish to highlight for the same reason!
Are you still looking to strengthen? If so, in which positions? The Club is always looking to progress and bring in talented players. That’s all that we can say in answer to this question!
Home ground: We’ve said farewell to Hatch End Playing Fields after five years and have been allocated pitches at The Hive and Gosling Sports Park in Welwyn Garden City.
Sponsors: Daniel Stewart & Company sponsored our first choice playing kit in the traditional TFFC colours of yellow shirts and red shorts. Our clash shirts (red) are sponsored by Ellis & Co.
Describe your club in one sentence, what would it be? TFFC, a well run and friendly club with a long history 42 years old and still going strong!
What do you love about the MSFL? This Club has an affinity for Maccabi football and we are proud to be taking part for the 36th consecutive campaign, longer than any current team. We’ve had many ups and downs with the League over the years but at the moment, things couldn’t be better so we are very pro-MSFL.
---------------------------------------
WOODFORD WANDERERS
Competitions entered: We lan to enter all of them MSFL Division Two, Morrison and Anekstein.
Hopes for the season: Promotion. Our squad is at full-strength - as good as it has been for a couple of years. We lost Andy Levy but we’ll have a more than capable replacement who will sign next week.
New signings: Officially no-one, although three players expected, very good players who not many would be familiar with in the MSFL.
Players out Andy Levy left for Glenthorne or Redbridge. There is also speculation that Emmanuel Simburg might leave. We understand he trained with Glenthorne last Sunday.
Who is the captain? Harrison Midda, with Darren Ezekiel vice.
Main challengers Probably the teams coming up - Temple Fortune, Brixton and Norstar maybe.
Ones to watch: Striker Jerome Marks and central midfielder Harrison Midda.
Do you have any outstanding youngsters in the squad? A youngster, formerly of Charlton Athletic, will be signing, plus a leading striker, we hope. We're undecided whether to sign him now or in a couple of months.
Are you still looking to strengthen? If so, in which positions? Looking for a centre back.
Home ground: Redbridge Sports Centre
Sponsors: Emerson Haig
Describe your club in one sentence: Bringing the crazy gang to Jewish football.
What do you love about the MSFL? David Woolf, no doubt about that!
---------------------------------------
Awaiting details from: North West Neasden B, Redbridge Jewish Care B, Southgate Harmen B
MSFL FOURTH DIVISION PREVIEW (with acknowledgemenst to Danny Caro at thejc.com)
ATHLETIC BILBAUM
Competitions entered: MSFL Division 4 and Cyril Anekstein Cup (I think, whichever one doesn’t run the risk of having to leave London!)
Hopes for the season: To revolutionise the way the Jewish game is played. This season Bilbaum will be reviving an ancient and mystical style of play developed deep in Lesotho’s Maluti Mountains, where the team spent a large part of this year’s inaugural Bilbaum pre-season tour of Swaziland and Lesotho, training in the high altitude and rugged environment in preparation for the gruelling campaign ahead.
What will your team will bring to the league this season? Despite the recession and widespread balance sheet deleveraging, the club has nonetheless gone ahead with the proposed stadium expansion, taking the capacity of the Bernebaum to a whopping seven seats. Visiting teams should expect electric Sunday morning atmospheres and deafening crowds as they make the arduous trip to the far flung corner of Hampstead Heath.
New signings: The squad has improved in a number of areas this summer with particular focus on strengthening the back line to improve what was a miserable goals scored to conceded ratio last season. There are also plenty of rumours stirring about the club brining in a couple of high profile players before the summer transfer window closes. See below for more details.
Players out All our players are required to sign as indentured servants making it impossible for them to leave before a minimum of seven years of service.
Who is the captain? The winner of the Annual Bilbaum Doughnut Eating Contest, to be held on August 29, will be crowned captain for the current season. Former manager Josh Ejdelbaum is the bookies favourite but will have to fend off fierce competition from hitman Ed Green and Andrew “Dog” Fenichel if he is to win the coveted prize.
Main challengers Not a clue.
‘Ones to watch’: Baum Baum the Elephant is once again expected to be the main threat this season, leading the line with his cuddly exterior and countless assortment of risqué chants.
Do you have any outstanding youngsters in the squad? Yes
Are you still looking to strengthen? If so, in which positions? Rumours are stirring of two additional signings from abroad to compliment the skills of current club golden boy Baum Baum. Quack Baum and Snap Baum are widely expected to sign on the dotted line before the end of the summer, although both deals are currently being held up over negotiations regarding the installation of a new high-tech heated and algae-free pond at the Bernebaum Stadium.
Home ground: The Bernebaum aka Hampstead Heath Extension
Sponsors: More of a Barcelona-style sponsorship this season, with the front of the iconic Bilbaum kit being proudly donated to charity Magen David Adom UK.
Describe your club in one sentence:
Rather than a sentence, perhaps a short chant would be more appropriate …
“We are the Baums from Golders Green (well kind of),
Not like any Baums you have ever seen,
We like to eat gefilte fish,
That’s a fishy dish!”
What do you love about the MSFL? The AGM. There is no thrill quite like it.
-------------------------------------
BRADY MACCABI B
Competitions entered: The league and both cup competitions
Hopes for the season: We are hoping to win the league this season. However, our main aim is promotion.
What will your team will bring to the league this season? We have many players who are comfortable with the ball at their feet so we will try to keep the ball on the floor and play some good attacking football.
Who is the captain? James Joseph, but football is a team game and we have many leaders in the side, such as Ollie Kay, Jonny Meltzer, Ben Hildebrand and Sam Frohlich, so everyone will play their part.
Main challengers? I don't know too much about the other teams apart from FC Team C. Like us, they have formed a team based on guys who have just finished uni.
‘Ones to watch’: James Joseph, Mike Beaber
Do you have any outstanding youngsters in the squad? Dan Korn
Are you still looking to strengthen? If so, in which positions? We are happy with the squad that we have.
Home ground: Rowley Lane
Sponsors: Impex Russell Ltd - Lighting Specialists
Describe your club in one sentence, what would it be? Young squad with a few experienced heads looking to work our way up the leagues.
What do you love about the MSFL? It gives you the opportunity to play football with your mates in a competitive and Jewish environment.
-------------------------------------
FC TEAM C
Competitions entered: Division 4 and the Peter Morrison Cup
Hopes for the season: Hopefully we will play good football and be contenders for promotion. There are a lot of new teams in the division, all looking for promotion, and we have similar ambitions.
What will your team will bring to the league this season? The team will bring flair to the division as we have a highly talented squad and the team wants to play good possession football.
Who is the captain? Michael Myers is captain and player-manager. As previous captain of his university society team, as well captaining one of the Manchester Maccabi teams before uni, he offers great experience in the role.
Main challengers I think all the teams are talking up their chances for promotion and as no one has seen most of the teams play it is unclear who will be our main challengers.
‘Ones to watch’: I don’t want to single anyone out at the moment but we have some great players going forward and I am expecting many goals this season.
Do you have any outstanding youngsters in the squad? The team is full of youngsters as it is mainly uni graduates, but we have a great young striker who shows a lot of promise.
Are you still looking to strengthen? If so, in which positions? The team is not looking to strengthen as we have great depth of squad.
Home ground: Hatch End playing fields
Describe your club in one sentence: Talented, ambitious and enigmatic
-------------------------------------
NORTH LONDON RAIDERS C
Competitions entered: Just the Cyril Anekstein, and hopefully we’ll be asked to play in the Barry Goldstein towards the end of the season.
Hopes for the season: Manager Oli Shorts and assistant-manager Rich Abrahams want one thing - promotion, but a push for the title wouldn’t go a miss.
What will your team will bring to the league this season? Entertainment and fantastic changing rooms. Hatfield Uni have some brilliant facilities. Oh, and the traditional orange colours of NL Raiders will be back.
New signings: As Arsene Wenger would say, ‘having a fit Matt Greene for the start of the season is like a new signing’. Jonny Skolnick, Matt Keston, Michael Israel, Ben Hart and Sam Morell have all joined and we’re hoping Rob Samuelson will come in as well.
Players out Maybe!
Who is the captain? Josh Graham will be leading us once again into the new season. A Raiders legend and the man to take us up.
Main challengers It's always tough when you have a division made up of new teams so ask me after a month of the season has gone. Saying that, I’m sure SPEC will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.
Ones to watch: We’re hoping James Franks can become the new Chris Iwelumo minus missing the occasional open goal.
Do you have any outstanding youngsters in the squad? Toby Katz came on leaps and bounds last year and is my tip for Young Player of the Year. He reminds me of a young Perry Groves; the Ginger Magician.
Are you still looking to strengthen? If so, in which positions? Unless Joey Barton converted, and offered his services, then we’ve strengthened enough during the off season.
Home ground: The home of football… Hatfield University 3G pitch.
Sponsors: Gee Lawson…….go check them out at www.geelawson.co.uk
Describe your club in one sentence: Unfit prima donnas who give their all for 90 minutes.
What do you love about the MSFL? Competitive football every weekend with your mates. What more could you ask for?
-------------------------------------
SPEC
Competitions entered: We’ve entered the Peter Morrison Trophy and the Cyril Anekstein Cup, along with the London Sunday Junior Cup. We would also love to have the opportunity to enter the Barry Goldstein Cup.
Hopes for the season: Our hopes are to end the season as champions. We realise that it’s going to be extremely difficult but if we weren’t at least challenging at the top, we would consider the season a failure.
What will your team will bring to the league this season? We will be bringing a whole new level of team spirit to the league. It’s something that we always knew was going to be our biggest strength and it’s proving that way so far in pre-season.
Who is the captain? Ashley Burns
Main challengers It’s difficult to say as there are six new teams. However I’d imagine it’s going to be the new faces at the top come the end of the season though teams with more a bit more experience of playing together may have something to say about that.
‘Ones to watch’: We’ve got a couple of players who have played a higher level in the M(S)FL however we’ve also unearthed what we hope to be a few gems. We’ve got Dan Cohen, who used to score goals for fun when he was a youngster, and we’ve also got our very own wall at the back in Doug Berlin.
Do you have any outstanding youngsters in the squad? Pretty much the whole team are between the ages of 22 and 27. So if you call 22 young then we’ve got quite a few, if not, our best youngster is Isaac Lawrence, though at just nine months he’s got quite a wait before he can don the famous blue and white.
Are you still looking to strengthen? If so, in which positions? We’re always on the lookout for any exceptional talent though we were very fortunate when it came to recruiting players for this season as much like Manchester United, we did our business early. We are also a very tight unit so 90 per cent of our players have known they were going to be playing for us for a while.
Home ground: Hertfordshire Sports Village, Hatfield
Sponsors: Both Cinderella Hair and Elmar Printers
Describe your club in one sentence: One word, BANANAS.
What do you love about the MSFL? What we all love and what we’ll love even more as the season progresses is the enjoyment of being part of a team and the spirit and the excitement that goes along with it. We’ve been waiting to re-form SPEC for a few years now and we all can’t wait for the season to begin.

TEMPLE FORTUNE B
Competitions entered: Temple Fortune’s Second Team will be taking part in the MSFL Fourth Division, the CA Cup and possibly the Barry Goldstein Trophy (if held).
Hopes for the season: Last season was the first for the reformed Second Team and although the side finished low down in Division 4, they certainly competed, losing nine games by a solitary goal, including five by just 1-0! We have some new players onboard and with a mixture of older experience and younger fitness we are looking to hold our own in the division and do much, much better than the last campaign.
What will your team will bring to the league this season? The ‘B’ team will symbolise any Temple Fortune team of the past competitive, hard working, never giving up the usual! Hopefully the Seconds will be stronger than last season and surprise a few teams.
What will your team will bring to the league this season? Yes, we have brought in several new faces but the two we wish to name are the new management duo! Terry Jeffries, last season’s top scorer, is the Second Team manager and assisting him will be former First Team Player of the Year Adam Glekin. We wish them the very best of luck in running our new-look ‘B’s.
Have any players left?
Players come and players go it’s immaterial who has left the Seconds. We are more focused on who we do have in the squad!
Who is the captain? At the time of writing this I do not know who Terry and Adam have appointed as captain but presumably the influential Garry Simpson and Simon Allen will be high up there as potential skippers. Both have the attributes to lead the team, having done the job for the Firsts on many occasions in the past.
Which teams do you think will be the main challengers in your division? It’s always hard to say in the lowest division when there are a number of new teams coming in. They could be world-beaters who dominate from the start or total misfits who struggle to get off the mark - who can say? So it’s a case of eeny meeny miney mo!
‘Ones to watch’: We prefer not to single out anyone in particular as the old adage says, it’s a team game and we play as a team with no stars! As long as the whole team remain competitive, there should be several ‘ones to watch’!
Do you have any outstanding youngsters in the squad? The ‘B’ team and the term ‘youngsters’ do not readily mix! Yes, we have a few younger players so since you’ve pinpointed ‘sters’ on the end of ‘young’, we will say NONE! (What I’m also saying is that if I name anyone ‘outstanding’, the ‘A’ team manager might snap him up!)
Are you still looking to strengthen? If so, in which positions? The Club is always looking to progress and bring in talented players. That’s all that we can say in answer to this question!
Home ground: Having spent one season in the mud at Hatch End Playing Fields, the Seconds will be hosting most home league fixtures at Gosling Sports Park in Welwyn Garden City.
Sponsors: Bekhors.com sponsored our first choice playing kit in the traditional TFFC colours of yellow shirts and red shorts. Our clash shirts (green and white stripes) are also sponsored by Bekhors.
