FORTUNETELLER
News, views and everything TFFC by Nigel Kyte
Welcome to issue 9 of the newsletter
Sunday 5th September 1976 was the date when Temple Fortune first played in the Maccabi (Southern) Football League. Which means that on Monday will be the thirty-fifth anniversary of that historic occasion for the Club. Temple Fortune, in their original league colours of emerald green and white stripes, emerald green shorts, opened the 1976/77 season by playing Bushey United at some playing fields in Horseshoe Lane, Watford. In a rather ill-tempered match watched by MSFL Chairman David Wolff, Bushey won 4-3. Danny Espinoza (2 penalties) and Peter Kyte scored Fortune's goals. There were two bookings for each team and Temple Fortune went on to finish 7th out of 13 teams in that inaugural season. That match was the very first of 1,213 league matches played by Temple Fortune up to the end of last season.
Back to the present, the FIRST TEAM opened the Club's 36th campaign in Maccabi football with their first match in Division One since the 1987/88 season. NORSTAR deservedly edged home on the 3G pitch in Wembley by a solitary goal scored by ex-Fortune striker Jeff Gotch. It was a controversial effort - Adam Glekin appeared to be bundled over the line - but Norstar probably deserved something for their overall pressure which could have led to a few more goals. The referee was unsighted when a Norstar player handled towards the end so Fortune came away with a narrow defeat. First Team Secretary Lee Fegan commented over a burger at The Jolly Badger Harvester: "Our players fought well and battled hard. It took us a while to get itno the game but when we did we showed signs of good quality and in my opinion finished the game on top. Unlucky with the decisive goal but we will bounce back."
Said First Team Admin Secretary Jack Morris: "We were very slow off the mark today and in all honesty could well have been 3 or 4 down at half-time. In the end it was only 1-0 and even that goal was fortuitous as we felt our keeper was fouled and the ball was bundled over the line. However we regrouped well and fought very hard in the second half and in the end could easily have nicked a point, especially as we had a clear penalty for handball not given in the closing stages. In fairness to the ref it was difficult for him to see, but judging from the Norstar players reaction, the ball definitely hit a hand in the area. Despite those two incidents, I think we can all agree Norstar deserved the victory, but with many players returning over the next few weeks, we feel confident we can improve going forwards. We were missing 6 today and expect at least half of those back next week. I would like to make a special mention to Matt Gilbery and Adam Glekin, both of whom were superb."
The SECOND TEAM met FC Team 'C' at Hatch End Playing Fields and, on the First Team's old pitch for 5 years, recorded an excellent 3-0 victory. Missing several regulars and a recognised goalkeeper, the Seconds played very well to register their first opening day league win since 2003. Second Team Secretary TERRY JEFFRIES scored two goals whilst defender ROB JAY netted a rare effort. Well done in particular to stand-in goalkeeper JEREMY BARNETT who deserves the capital letters usually reserved for goalscorers for keeping a clean sheet! Gavin Levy, who played in the match, said: "It was a tremendous hard-working performance. The stand-out player was Simon Allen who was excellent in defence. We had to dig in hard after a close goalless first half and we scored three very good goals. A superb result and just the start we needed."
The OLD BOYS TEAM were in action against former Masters First Division team HENDON HARRIERS at Hatfield in their second pre-season friendly and lost 5-1. JAMES RYAN scored the lone Old Boys goal. Said midfielder Peter Kyte: "We lost 1-5 but played really well. They really didn't deserve to win by that margin. We had six very good chances in the last ten minutes including three one-on-ones... and missed them all!"

WELCOME TO ALL OUR NEWCOMERS!
A warm welcome to each and every new member who has recently joined the Club. It's great to have 'new blood' coming to this established Club and I hope that your respective team-mates will make you feel at home. Please make every effort to attend the training, details in the red box above. Our most recent joinee is 18 year old JAKE LEWIS, who only delivered his forms this very day! Good luck to all of our new players and everyone for that matter!
CONGRATULATIONS TO GANCEY AND DAN NIS!
During the week Lee Fegan reported the following regarding the academic achievements of First Team players DAVE GANCE and DANIEL NISSAN: "Just spoke to Gancey and he has told me that he got 3 A's in his 'A' levels and Dan Nissan got 4 A stars in his." Both players were admitted into their universities so heartiest congratulations go to them on behalf of the Club!
CYRIL ANEKSTEIN CUP DRAW
The JC Cyril Anekstein Cup the MSFL's 'League Cup' - first round draw was made at the League Council meeting on Tuesday. The First Team have been drawn away to FAITHFOLD 'C', who won the Barry Goldstein Trophy last season - luckily beating our Seconds 1-0 in the semi-final - whilst the Second team will meet LONDON MACCABI LIONS 'B', also an away tie. Both opponents are from the Second Division.
PUNCTUALITY IS A MUST
The Old Boys did not get off to the best start in the opening friendly last week against Clayhall both on and off the field of play. Several players arrived late. This is a timely reminder that you are requested to be at the venue NO LATER than 30 minutes before the kick-off. Anything after that is LATE. This applies to all three of our teams and fines will be imposed on repeated late-comers. Lateness affects the team preparation and is NOT acceptable. Please take the time to click here and read the information carefully. LATE PLAYERS will be named and shamed on this page in future.
THE TFN FANTASY LEAGUE, 2011/12: STILL OPEN TO ENTER
A reminder that we are running a new season of TFN FANTASY LEAGUE for the 2011/12 season, which will be our SEVENTH annual competition. It's easy to enter on the fantasy.premierleague.com website. In choosing a suitable name, you MUST use Upper and Lower case for both YOUR name (as manager) and the TEAM name 'Super Stars' is correct, 'super stars' or 'SUPER STARS' is wrong. Any manager or team name which does not follow this will be deleted. Once you have formed your team and chosen the squad, go to LEAGUES, click on 'Join a league', then 'Private league' and enter the following Private League code: 57173-21943. There willl be a trophy at the end of the season and all-time listing on the Club' website as a CHAMPION! Last season we had a record entry of 37 people so come on, give it a go!
DELVING DEEP: A series where we take a look at articles and features deep inside the TFFC website which you may never have seen! No.9: SIX OF THE BEST yes, it's a repeat of the information linked under 'Punctuality Is A Must' above, but it is important stuff which you are asked to read. We can only remain well run and efficient with YOUR cooperation at all times.

NEW DISCIPLINARY PAGE ON WEBSITE
To maintain a record of suspensions, I have introduced a new feature on the website which is as clear-cut to follow as anything. The disciplinary table will show each player sent off and suspended alongside a week-by-week calendar, with suspensions clearly marked in addition to fines, yellow cards, payments received or outstanding. And Club fines will be logged as well. The table provides a very useful reference for Team Secretaries monitoring a player's availability when suspended. To get to the page, click on any of the Team Page links shown above in the 'Fortune Pre-Seasons' panel, and then click on 'DISCIPLINARY TABLE'.
MSFL AND MMFL FIXTURES ON THE WEBSITE
You can find our early season fixtures on the team pages click on the blue panels on the right under "Fortune Round-Up". MSFL fixtures are released in batches of three or four weeks, whilst the Masters fixtures have been listed up to the end of October.

MACCABI FOOTBALL REVIEW
MSFL review by Danny Caro, www.thejc.com/msfl
MSFL FIRST DIVISION
BRIXTON OLD BOYS 'A' 2, NORTH WEST NEASDEN 'B' 0
John Nitka's men made a flying start as goals from Rory Lincoln and Alon Hershkorn took them past Neasden B.
MONTANA BOCA UNITED 4, SOUTHGATE HARMEN 'B' 2
Two goals from Gary Cohen helped Montana make a flying start as they proved too strong for Harmen B. Further strikes from Darren Cohen and Nick Goodmaker rubber-stamped a first victory for new manager Vivian Emanuel. Harmen's goals came through Paul Stein and Doron Hershkorn.
NORSTAR 'A' 1, TEMPLE FORTUNE 'A' 0
A solitary strike from new signing Jeff Gotch helped Norstar win the battle of the two newly-promoted teams as the Stars edged past last season's Division Two champions.
REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE 'B' 2, WOODFORD WANDERERS 0
Redbridge won the first east London derby of the season with strikes from Mark Zealander and Daniel Orgel taking them past Woodford.
MSFL FOURTH DIVISION

Josh Dagul's Brady B made the perfect start with Hildebrand, Kay and Maynard on target in the 3-1 win over fellow newcomers Boca Jewniors.
FC TEAM 'C' 0, TEMPLE FORTUNE 'B' 3
Player-manager Terry Jeffries (2) and Rob Jay were on the money as Temple Fortune B claimed maximum points and registered a rare clean sheet to make the perfect start to the season.

Strikes from player-boss Mark Pasha and Bekhor saw the Bilbaum boys edge past Jewve. Alexander was the marksman for the home team.
SPEC FC 3, BRIXTON OLD BOYS 'B' 0
Captain Ashley Burns (2) and Dan Cohen were the marksmen as highly-fancied SPEC ran out worthy winners against fellow new boys Brixton B.

FAITHFOLD 4, NORTH LONDON RAIDERS 2
In the only Masters League fixture played, a strengthen Faithfold side came back from being a goal down to take the game 4-2. Goals from debutant Simon White (2), Joel Nathan and one other helped shoot down last season's runners-up, for whom Richard Sacks scored one of their two goals.
