FORTUNETELLER
News, views and everything TFFC by Nigel Kyte
Welcome to issue 17 of the newsletter
I'm going to start the 17th edition of The Fortune News with a marvelous milestone that I am very proud to mention at the summit of 'FortuneTeller'. You may well have seen that the TFFC website has devoted its home page to this achievement and a jpeg of the image appears at the foot of this newsletter. My brother's SEVEN HUNDREDTH appearance for the Club today is truly an epic feat of commitment, dedication and loyalty to one club. Peter has overcome some football-threatening injuries to remain playing for Temple Fortune over a playing career spanning over 41 years. Yes, it's incredible to think that he made his debut in 1970 at the age of just 14! In the coming week there will be a page on the website to commemorate his excellent achievement of 700 games. I hope that the media, who will be reading this issue, will write something about Peter because it is not every day that you will find someone playing football for one club over so many years... and he still turns out for the Old Boys (he captained the team against Hendon Harriers this morning).
Peter has served the Club as man and boy, you could say! On the Management Committee for many years as General Secretary and Treasurer, Peter was instrumental in the original formation of the Second Team. Until Bryan Silver overtook him, he was the leading goalscorer from midfield for many seasons! If you would like to share a celebration drink with Peter, I am hoping that he will be at the Jolly Badger (Harvester) in Hale Lane at 1pm next Sunday. When it comes to 'Legends' in Jewish football, look no further than PETER KYTE. 700 appearances and counting!
The FIRST TEAM were gifted three important points thanks to Woodford Wanderers being defaulted by the League for not paying outstanding fines. We were told via email on Friday by MSFL Chairman David Wolff that Woodford were under suspension for failing to settle long-running debts. I received a call from Daniel Segal of Woodford on Friday lunch-time attempting to see if we were 'up' to play the match because he was hoping to get the match reinstated by paying the fine. But my response was that we had already planned an alternative match and that we had no option but to follow the League's decision. Unless we were instructed by the League to fulfil the fixture afterall, as far as I was concerned, it was done and dusted our inhouse match would go ahead as planned.
Quite honestly, Woodford are not one of my favourite teams (I'm sure many would drink to that one!); hardly a team that you really would want to do favours for! So I would not have bust a gut to help them. But as it happens, I heard nothing more from the League or Woodford, so the suspension and points award stood. Daniel spoke about pulling his team out of the League as a result of this matter, so we will have to wait and see if he is true to his word. If that does happen, their record of five defeats from five matches (including ours) will be expunged. Redbridge 'B', who beat them twice, stand to be the biggest losers if Wanderers do go. My take on the whole situation is that I hope they do remain (only for the points we have gained!)... but if they DO decide to withdraw, will they be missed? I think not!
FRIDAY'S CONFIRMATION OF OUR MSFL DIVISION 2 'WIN'
Gentlemen,
TEMPLE FORTUNE v WOODFORD WANDERERS OCT 30th
I write to advise that since Woodford Wanderers are under a league suspension for failing to discharge outstanding fines the above game is cancelled and under rule 12(e) of the league the match awarded to Temple Fortune.

Once the news came through, some quick planning by the First Team management to raise a TF eleven to oppose the Firsts gave the team a decent run-out on the 3G at The Hive which otherwise would have gone to waste. According to Jack Morris, "it was a crazy game!" He said about the match: "The Select team went 3-0 up but the Firsts pulled it back to 3-3 by half-time. Then the Select team scored three more to lead 6-3, only for the Firsts to hit six goals to win 9-6!"
I've seen some bizarre results in the MSFL during all my time of running the Club, scores like 8-5 and 10-5 but the scoreline of 9-6 is certainly a first for Temple Fortune. I have asked Jack for a rundown of goalscorers for the First Team he might struggle to name the nine, I don't know! As for whether or not appearances count for the purposes of Club records, they do for the First Team but not for the Select XI. Which means, JC, you are definitely on 95! Still, it made full use of the 3G and brought in some much-needed revenue to offset the cost, so it was an effort worthwhile in my book. I would like to thank everyone who participated.

The SECOND TEAM played ATHLETICO FINCHLEY at Coptall Playing Fields and I am thankful to Adam Glekin for the following match report.
Temple Fortune 'B' produced their worst performance of the season and suffered a hugely disappointing 6-2 defeat to Athletico Finchley at Copthall. A young, vibrant Finchley side had too much on the day, and caused Fortune a lot of problems defensively, going into half time with a 3-0 lead. A contentious penalty decision early in the second half gave top scorer TERRY JEFFRIES the chance to get his side back in the game, which he duly took, but Finchley continued to look dangerous and ran away with the game. A sweet turn and shot by JOEY GLYNNE was merely a consolation on what was a day to forget. Adam said: "Credit to Athletico Finchley, they played very well and deserved the win. Perhaps we underestimated them, we just weren't at the races today right from the first whistle. However, we've made a decent start to the season and hopefully this is just a minor blip".
At Parmiters Sports Centre in Garston, the OLD BOYS TEAM played HENDON HARRIERS who put nine past Temple Fortune, including hat-tricks for Paul Herszaft and Andrew Cohen. Ilan Cohen scored twice, while David Jacobs was also on target in a 9-3 win. Allon Schick-Maier's penalty, Alan Harounoff and James Ryan scored Fortune's consolations. Not the best of matches for PETER KYTE to celebrate his 700th appearance!
STEVE MURAD'S DOUBLE LAST WEEK
Congratulations to First Team goalkeeper STEVE MURAD who was nominated for the Team of the Week by both the JC and Totally websites last week. Steve had an excellent match against Redbridge 'B', helping Fortune to come away from Fairlop with a vital point in a 1-1 draw. He made one superb save which drew the attention of the media resulting in his inclusion in both Teams well done, Steve!
PUNCTUALITY ESSENTIAL
Another reminder that you are requested to be at the venue NO LATER than 30 minutes before the kick-off. Anything after that is LATE. This applies to all three of our teams and fines will be imposed on repeated late-comers. Please take the time to click here and read the information carefully. LATE PLAYERS will continue to be named and shamed on this page in future and fines/suspensions will be imposed as necessary.
INTER-CLUB QUIZ ROUND ROUND
Round Two of this seasn's TENTH QUIZ competition starts today (Sunday 30th October). The onus is on the participant to take part and submit his or her answers including a tie-break answer by the deadline given. His or her tally of correct answers will be matched against the score of his or her opponent and the person with the highest points will progress into the next round. Should someone not bother to submit an entry by the deadline stipulated, his or her score will be recorded as nil; if both players in any one tie do not enter, one will progress by a toss of a coin. If two participants who submit entries are level on points, the tie-break will come into operation. The competition will continue with paired-off ties until two eventually reach the Final.
The questions in Round Two will be harder! So check to see who your opponent is and look out for the Round Two email which will be sent today. Please make every effort to take part! The Round One results (and Round Two pairings) can be found here, whilst the main Quiz page is on here.

NEW DISCIPLINARY PAGE ON WEBSITE
To maintain a record of suspensions, I have introduced a new feature on the website which is as clear-cut to follow as anything. The disciplinary table will show each player sent off and suspended alongside a week-by-week calendar, with suspensions clearly marked in addition to fines, yellow cards, payments received or outstanding. And Club fines will be logged as well. The table provides a very useful reference for Team Secretaries monitoring a player's availability when suspended. To get to the page, click on any of the Team Page links shown above in the 'Fortune Pre-Seasons' panel, and then click on 'DISCIPLINARY TABLE'.

FORTUNE DRAW MICHAEL'S OLD TEAM IN PMT
The First Team will meet Second Division CAMDEN PARK in the Second Round of the Peter Morrison Trophy. Midfielder Michael Goldberg used to play for Camden Park and will relish the chance to put one over his old team! The two teams last met in season 2001/02, also in Round 2. Camden Park were then in Division 1 whilst Fortune were two divisions below but our First Team took them all the way to penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time, Camden winning 4-3 after the shoot-out.
MACCABI FOOTBALL REVIEW
MSFL review by Danny Caro, www.thejc.com/msfl
MSFL FIRST DIVISION
With the CA Cup second round in progress, there was only one MSFL Division One fixture scheduled, but that fell victim to a forteiture by Woodford Wanderers against Temple Fortune 'A'. See the left-hand column for more details.
MSFL FOURTH DIVISION
ATHLETICO FINCHLEY 6. TEMPLE FORTUNE 'B' 2
Three goals from Amit Dinowitz steered Athletico Finchley to their first-ever victory in the MSFL as they over-powered promotion-chasing Temple Fortune 'B'. Further strikes from Daniel Goodman, Harley Golding and Aron Keller ensured that manager Dovid Kurzer will mark October 30 down in the diary and remember it with pride for the rest of his life.
BOCA JEWNIORS 2, JEWVENTUS 6
Jewventus made hard work of beating Boca, but their class shone through in the end with James Alexander and Nigel Sommeck proving the difference. Sefton Monk put the home side ahead with a stunning goal of the week contender but once Jewve equalised, there was only going to be one winner. Player-manager Gabriel John, Guy Orr, Nigel Sommeck (2) and James Alexander (2) completed the comeback. Monk netted for a second time for Boca but nothing could stop Jewve taking the points.
MASTERS SECOND DIVISION
Glenthorne 'B' regained their position at the top of the table after a 4-3 win in the big game of the day against the earlier table-toppers, London Lions. Lions' goals came from Marc Morris, Lee Cohen and Danny Schindler, but strikes from Adam Lennard, a Jon Bolle double and a superb goal from Paul van Gelder on his 58th birthday made it a happy one for him and for Glenthorne. Other than the fact he was cautioned by Nigel Kyte who took 3 other names in a niggly and whingy fixture! Glenthorne actually led 4-0 before a late comeback by Lions threatened to deny them the points but they held on to win.
And there were further celebrations for Glenthorne at the foot of the table as their 'C' team notched up their first point of the season from a 1-1 draw with Ashlodge, Nick Pitch scoring for Glenthorne and Phil Silver replying for Ashlodge.
Brady 'B' returned to winning ways with a closely-fought 4-2 victory over Marshside. Roger Kay, Malcolm Hershman's penalty and Jonny Cohen gave Brady a commanding early lead, but Marshside pulled one back just before the break through Stuart Brooks. With just eight minutes left, Danny Sofizade halved the deficit for Marshside, but Roger Kay settled it in Brady's favour with his second goal two minutes later.
TFFC TRAINING ON TUESDAY: PLEASE ATTEND!
MIDWEEK TRAINING CONTINUES ON TUESDAY AT LONDON MACCABI LIONS SPORTS GROUND, ROWLEY LANE, BARNET, AT 9PM. As you know, the Club has booked a third of the excellent London Maccabi Lions 3G pitch on Tuesday evenings at 9pm for an hour so please make every effort to attend. There will be a separate fee for training which can be paid in two installments or as 'pay and play' on the night (which will a dearer way of paying). Please email Jack Morris to confirm your attendance and to arrange your installment payment. The 3G takes moulded boots or astro trainers but not screw-in studs. If you are attending, please be there ON TIME.
ABUSE THE REF MEANS A FOUR MATCH BAN
The Club will be making a point of drumming into all our players that abusing a match official will NOT be tolerated and will earn any offender a ban of FOUR MATCHES. A reminder will be emailed every Friday to everyone in the shape of examples of things you could say to a referee and be sent off. Last week the campaign should have started but because of ongoing admin issues, has been delayed until the week coming. Some ofmthe jpegs you will find amusing but the serious message is always the same ABUSE THE REF = FOUR MATCH BAN.
