FORTUNETELLER
News, views and everything TFFC by Nigel Kyte
Welcome to issue 21 of the newsletter
Temple Fortune have progressed into Round 4 of the Peter Morrison Trophy the national Last 16 round - for the first time since 1990-91. In those days, the competition was run in Southern and Northern Areas, with the competition only going 'national' for the actual Final. So the current Round 4 is equivalent to the old Southern Area quarter-finals (adding the Northern quarter-finals used to give 16 teams remaining in the competition). In theory, the FIRST TEAM could be drawn against one of the Northern teams so a trip north of Watford could be a possibility! We have never ventured that far but Fortune did 'go West' when the Club's only distant journey in the PMT was a trip to Cardiff 21 years ago!
A PAUL WALKER double including one from the penalty spot plus one from BRETT STEAD helped Fortune become the first team to reach the last 16 in a five-goal thriller against Southgate Harmen 'B'. Paul Walker put Fortune ahead with a penalty and things went from bad to worse for Harmen when their goalkeeper was sent off towards the end of the first half following two cautionable offences. Strangely this seemed to help Harmen who then started to get on top and were rewarded with their own penalty late in the half which they scored. The First Team started the second half poorly but as the half wore on, their numerical advantage helped and Paul Walker scored his second from a corner. Brett Stead netted a third before a late Harmen goal ensured a nervy last five minutes.
Said manager Lee Fegan: "Overall I'm pleased we are still in the competition. We dominated the first half hour but complacency seemed to set in and our performance dropped slightly. However, we took control again in the second half and we were worthy winners." Jack Morris, Lee's assistant, added: "Matt Gilbery in particular playing superbly and clearing everything they threw at us. Paul Walker was also great and scored his 6th goal in his last 5 games. His goals from midfield have helped a lot and he put in another captain's performance today."
The SECOND TEAM went down by a solitary goal to fellow promotion-chasing SPEC in tortuous windy conditions on the University of Herts 3G in Hatfield. In a match with few chances, the only goal came from a highly dubious penalty decision midway through the second half when Adam Field appeared to make next to no contact with the Spec winger who went down theatrically. It proved to be the decisive moment in an otherwise scrappy encounter. Fortune boss Terry Jeffries was incensed with the referee who he felt had a very poor game, and assistant manager Adam Glekin added: "It was disappointing to lose the game in that fashion; we felt their player played for the penalty and Adam Field insists there was little or no contact. It certainly wasn't one of our better performances of the season but it also wasn't easy in the blustery conditions. They probably shaded the game but I felt a draw would've been a fair result".
The OLD BOYS TEAM did not have a fixture, although Graham Meyer and Yali Mamouri guested for Masters Division 2 side Marshside and helped them to a shock 3-1 victory against the previously unbeaten leaders Glenthorne 'B' at The Hive, refereed by Nigel Kyte. "Yali scored the second goal to make it 2-1," he said, "and should have netted a couple of others, missing an open goal on one occasion, whilst Graham was very solid in midfield."

BROKEN WRIST INJURY HITS MONTY
ANDY MONTLAKE, one of our double centurions, has suffered a nasty broken wrist injury duing last week's Old Boys fixture against Clayhall Park Casuals. Said Andy: "I've broken my right wrist badly but played on though. I fell awkwardly in a tackle (goal saving tackle, of course!) My right hand so a real pain though and in plaster for 6 to 8 weeks. Brilliant!" We wish Monty a speedy recovery from his injury and look forward to him returning next year.
BEN DAVID LEAVES TEMPLE FORTUNE
BEN DAVID has become the third Second Team player to leave the Club this season. Ben has decided to transfer to Faithfold and the paperwork was completed last week. He joins Saul Stern and Byron Watkins as ex-Fortune players. We wish Ben the best of luck with his new team.
PUNCTUALITY ESSENTIAL
Another reminder that you are requested to be at the venue NO LATER than 30 minutes before the kick-off. Anything after that is LATE. This applies to all three of our teams and fines will be imposed on repeated late-comers. Please take the time to click here and read the information carefully. LATE PLAYERS will continue to be named and shamed on this page in future and fines/suspensions will be imposed as necessary.
'THE FORTUNE NEWS' BACK ISSUES
A reminder that you can read back issues of this season's newsletter if you have missed any. At the bottom of the second column on the right you will find links for all 20 previous issues. Please let me know if any do not open.
TFFC TRAINING ON TUESDAY: PLEASE ATTEND!
MIDWEEK TRAINING CONTINUES ON TUESDAY AT LONDON MACCABI LIONS SPORTS GROUND, ROWLEY LANE, BARNET, AT 9PM. As you know, the Club has booked a third of the excellent London Maccabi Lions 3G pitch on Tuesday evenings at 9pm for an hour so please make every effort to attend. There will be a separate fee for training which can be paid in two installments or as 'pay and play' on the night (which will a dearer way of paying). Please email Jack Morris to confirm your attendance and to arrange your installment payment. The 3G takes moulded boots or astro trainers but not screw-in studs. If you are attending, please be there ON TIME.
NEW DISCIPLINARY PAGE ON WEBSITE
To maintain a record of suspensions, I have introduced a new feature on the website which is as clear-cut to follow as anything. The disciplinary table will show each player sent off and suspended alongside a week-by-week calendar, with suspensions clearly marked in addition to fines, yellow cards, payments received or outstanding. And Club fines will be logged as well. The table provides a very useful reference for Team Secretaries monitoring a player's availability when suspended. To get to the page, click on any of the Team Page links shown above in the 'Fortune Pre-Seasons' panel, and then click on 'DISCIPLINARY TABLE'.
ABUSE THE REF MEANS A FOUR MATCH BAN
The Club will be making a point of drumming into all our players that abusing a match official will NOT be tolerated and will earn any offender a ban of FOUR MATCHES. A reminder will be emailed from time to time to everyone in the shape of examples of things you could say to a referee and be sent off. Some of the jpegs you will find amusing but the serious message is always the same ABUSE THE REF = FOUR MATCH BAN.

MACCABI FOOTBALL REVIEW
MSFL review by Danny Caro, www.thejc.com/msfl
MSFL FIRST DIVISION
OAKWOOD 4, NORTH WEST NEASDEN 'B' 0
A Matt Geey brace put the Oaks back on track as they proved too strong for Neasden B at Parmiters. Dan Ash and Rob Davidson finished the job.
NORSTAR 'A' 1, REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE 'B' 3
Two more goals from the deadly Dan Orgel helped Redbridge 'B' leapfrog Norstar to finish the weekend top of the table. The influential Jamie Cooper also found the net as Stirling Kay's men extended their unbeaten league run in stylish fashion in Wembley. Norstar's goal came through Sam Isaacs.
MSFL FOURTH DIVISION
ATHLETIC BILBAUM 3, BRADY MACCABI 'B' 1
A treble from Gilbert blew the Division Four promotion race wide open as Athletic Bilbaum moved to within a point of second-placed Brady with an impressive 3-1 victory in Hampstead. The in-form Dan Hildebrand netted for Brady.
ATHLETICO FINCHLEY 1, JEWVENTUS 5
Goals from Dan Ezra, Gabriel John, James Alexander and Nigel Sommeck saw Jewventus run out worthy winners against Athletico Finchley.
BOCA JEWNIORS 2, BRIXTON OLD BOYS 'B' 2
Boca Jewniors came from behind to claim their first-ever point in the JC MSFL, but manager Sefton Monk felt that it should have been three following an entertaining affair against Brixton. Farrell Monk and super-sub Anton Nyman netted for Boca. Brixton's goals came through Danny Sherman and Dan Selt.
FC TEAM 'C' 2, NORTH LONDON RAIDERS 'C' 2
Two goals from Ben Hart were not enough to help leaders Raiders making it nine out of nine as they dropped points for the first time this season against a battling FC Team 'C'. Worth and Cohen were the scorers for FC Team.
SPEC FC 1, TEMPLE FORTUNE 'B' 0
Spec gave their promotion hopes a big boost with a goal from James Lesner enough to see off fellow high-flyers Temple Fortune 'B'. In a match with few chances, the only goal came from a dubious penalty decision midway through the second half when a Spec forward went down theatrically with little contact. It proved to be the decisive moment in an otherwise scrappy encounter.
MASTERS SECOND DIVISION
Previously unbeaten Glenthorne 'B' went ahead against Marshside thanks to Gary Swerner's goal, but former Glenthorne player Fara Moghim inspired his new team to a 3-1 win thanks to Oren Wolff's double and guest Yali Mamouri's strike.
Lions took advantage of Glenthorne's defeat to go top, but only by the narrowest of margins, as they scraped home 1-0 against bottom place Glenthorne 'C', the goal coming from Mark Rose.
Also winning by a single goal were Hendon Harriers, for whom David Jacobs' strike gave them the points in their encounter with Clayhall.
EDRS Stonegrove kept their title hopes alive with a 4-0 win over Ashlodge, with ex-Fortune midfielder Martin Seifert scoring twice, plus Ian Leader and Mark Kingston also finding the back of the net.
