FORTUNETELLER
News, views and everything TFFC by Nigel Kyte
Welcome to issue 15 of the newsletter
It's not often that something more important than Temple Fortune results fills the opening paragraphs but there is a need to say something about punctuality. So before I cover the matches played today I wish to bring the following to the attention of you all. I am hearing reports of players turning up late to matches which is totally UNACCEPTABLE. And it's becoming beyond a joke. Lateness affects the team preparation and causes unnecessary anxiety and disorganisation. We really cannot run our teams efficiently with some players failing to respect a simple requirement PUNCTUALITY IS ESSENTIAL.
Last week I refereed at The Hive with the Old Boys Team playing on the pitch next to my match. Three teams were out there early warming up and the fourth team was late out. Which one? The Old Boys hardly good preparation for the match ahead against Brady. And today, by chance I was refereeing at Rowley Lane, behind the 3G pitch where the Second Team were due to play. I saw North London Raiders warming up BEFORE I reached my pitch at 9.40am. And when did I spot the first red-shirted Temple Fortune player on the 3G? At 9.55am FIVE minutes before kick-off. Great preparation NOT! Significantly, both matches were lost. Was the poor preparation the cause? Who knows for sure but one thing is for certain... if you are not well prepared and warmed-up properly, you are risking a slow start, potential injury and possibly an early deficit by the team collectively before you DO get into gear. So as to not exclude the First Team completely in this matter, after the match I heard that Josh Marks and Jason Miller were late at the First Team fixture at West Hendon which did not please the management. All in all, and I am talking right through the Club on matchdays, it really is not good enough and MUST be improved.
So this is a timely reminder that you are requested to be at the venue NO LATER than 30 minutes before the kick-off. Anything after that is LATE. This applies to all three of our teams and fines will be imposed on repeated late-comers. Please take the time to click here and read the information carefully. LATE PLAYERS will continue to be named and shamed on this page in future and fines/suspensions will be imposed as necessary.
And now onto the football. The FIRST TEAM avoided a potential banana skin in the Peter Morrison Trophy opening round by defeating Fourth Division SPEC 3-0 at West Hendon Playing Fields. After losing to North West Neasden 'B' in the league the previous week, the Firsts were keen not to fall victim to a quick, young SPEC side which should do well in Diviison 4 alongside our Second Team. JON FISHER (with a sumptuous long range screamer), JASON MILLER and PAUL WALKER scored Fortune's goals, whilst Roni Stone made an outstanding save when the score was only 1-0, somehow tipping a low shot around the post when it looked goalbound. Altogether, it was a very professional performance by the Yellows as they held off keen opposition to secure a passage into Round Two. Said First Team manager Lee Fegan: "It was a solid performance. We showed good character and a lot of qualities. I was delighted we did the job and full credit to SPEC for making it a competitive match."
The SECOND TEAM finished a bad week points-wise by being defeated 3-1 by NORTH LONDON RAIDERS 'C' at the London Maccabi sports ground in Rowley Lane. The home side proved to be too strong on the 3G pitch which suited them better, and all the Seconds had to show for 90 minutes of toil was a TERRY JEFFRIES penalty. Said Second Team assistant manager Adam Glekin: "They were by far the better team and fully deserved to win so I've got no qualms about the result. I don't think the 3G suits our game but no excuses, NLR are a very good team so well done to them."
On the Monday evening preceding the fixture, the MSFL Management Committee awarded three points to FC Team from the Second Team's opening League game of the season, which Fortune won 3-0. Joey Glynne's registration form had not been submitted to the League for the FC Team match which made him ineligible. Therefore, the result was reversed and it now counts as a match lost. What happened is very unlike TFFC and was a huge error of judgement by someone new to the job of running the team. Fines totaling £110 were paid by two members and suspensions served. And now the matter has been dealt with by the League and can be finally put to bed. A lesson learned the hard way if ever there was one. There is still a long way to go for the Second Team this season so onwards and upwards!
The OLD BOYS TEAM played Masters Division 2 leaders GLENTHORNE UNITED 'B' and gave them a good game before losing 4-2. Glenthorne B, the reigning champions and looking favourites to repeat the feat, made it four wins out of four with goals from Sid Shaw, Gary Swerner, Jon Bolle and Adam Lennard, while ALLON SCHICK-MAIER and JAMES RYAN replied for the Old Boys.
HELPING YOU TO NAVIGATE THE TFFC WEBSITE
A member of the First Team, who is into his second season with the Club, emailed me last week asking where can he find the fixtures. I realise that the website is quite large and that if you are not familiar with its navigation it can take time to locate what you want to see. But for basic information such as fixtures I do not think it is rocket science to locate it! I like to think that all members know where certain sections of info are, such as fixtures, appearances and results, and the weekly newsletter. At the bottom of this issue are some questions and answers to help you navigate the website so if you are one who struggles to find the basics, please scroll down and read the information which you may find helpful.
INTER-CLUB QUIZ ROUND ONE COMPLETED
Sixty-four Club Members and certain invited guests contested Round One of this season's tenth Quiz competition which was held on Sunday 9th October. The Round One results (and Round Two pairings) can be found here, whilst the main Quiz page is on here.
Round Two is being held in two weeks' time, on Sunday 30th October. The onus is on the participant to take part and submit his or her answers including a tie-break answer by the deadline given. His or her tally of correct answers will be matched against the score of his or her opponent and the person with the highest points will progress into the next round. Should someone not bother to submit an entry by the deadline stipulated, his or her score will be recorded as nil; if both players in any one tie do not enter, one will progress by a toss of a coin. If two participants who submit entries are level on points, the tie-break will come into operation. The competition will continue with paired-off ties until two eventually reach the Final.
The questions in Round Two will be harder! So check to see who your opponent is and look out for the Round Two email which will be sent in two week's time. Please make every effort to take part!

For regularly updated news on anything 'official' about the TFFC worth sharing with Club Members, you will now find the Club 'tweeting' on http://twitter.com/YellowsAndReds! Please connect with TFFC because next season this is where you will find access to breaking Club news, such as fixtures, results and anything else going on.
NEW DISCIPLINARY PAGE ON WEBSITE
To maintain a record of suspensions, I have introduced a new feature on the website which is as clear-cut to follow as anything. The disciplinary table will show each player sent off and suspended alongside a week-by-week calendar, with suspensions clearly marked in addition to fines, yellow cards, payments received or outstanding. And Club fines will be logged as well. The table provides a very useful reference for Team Secretaries monitoring a player's availability when suspended. To get to the page, click on any of the Team Page links shown above in the 'Fortune Pre-Seasons' panel, and then click on 'DISCIPLINARY TABLE'.

MASTERS REVIEW
DIVISION ONE
Glenthorne 'A' recorded their first win of the season and crept off the bottom of the table after the narrowest of wins over Scrabble, with Jason Levy getting the only goal of the game.
DIVISION TWO
Marshside made their belated debut and raced to a 3-0 half-time lead over Clayhall with two long-range shots from Danny Safizade and an own goal. Clayhall responded after the interval with two goals from former Fortune midfielder Warren Ludwin and a penalty from Gary Rowland, but a breakaway move finished by Stuart Brooks gave Marshside a 4-3 win and the points.
Brady Maccabi 'B' kept up their challenge as they edged past Ashlodge. Despite being behind to goals from ex-Old Boys midfielder Geoff Isaacs and John Seigal, Brady came back to win 3-2 thanks to Roger Kay, a penalty from Malcolm Hershman and a late winner from Gary Rose.
London Maccabi Lions moved up into third place with a 4-2 win over EDRS Stonegrove inspired by a hat-trick from Marc Morris. Stuart Coutts scored Lions' other goal, with Roger Levitt and Phil Silver replying for EDRS.
TFFC TRAINING ON TUESDAY: PLEASE ATTEND!
MIDWEEK TRAINING CONTINUES ON TUESDAY AT LONDON MACCABI LIONS SPORTS GROUND, ROWLEY LANE, BARNET, AT 9PM. As you know, the Club has booked a third of the excellent London Maccabi Lions 3G pitch on Tuesday evenings at 9pm for an hour so please make every effort to attend. There will be a separate fee for training which can be paid in two installments or as 'pay and play' on the night (which will a dearer way of paying). Please email Jack Morris to confirm your attendance and to arrange your installment payment. The 3G takes moulded boots or astro trainers but not screw-in studs. If you are attending, please be there ON TIME.
ABUSE THE REF MEANS A FOUR MATCH BAN
The Club will be making a point of drumming into all our players that abusing a match official will NOT be tolerated and will earn any offender a ban of FOUR MATCHES. A reminder will be emailed every Friday to everyone in the shape of examples of things you could say to a referee and be sent off. Last week the campaign should have started but because of ongoing admin issues, has been delayed until the week coming. Some ofmthe jpegs you will find amusing but the serious message is always the same ABUSE THE REF = FOUR MATCH BAN.

NAVIGATING THE WEBSITE: A few questions and answers to help you!
Since we have quite a few newcomers amongst us, and because at least one member from last season still doesn't know where to locate First Team fixtures, below are a few questions and answers which should help even the most myopic amongst us!
Q. Where can I find my team's fixtures and results?
A. Two ways - (1) There is a link to each team's page on the website home page (www.tffc.co.uk) under the Club crest located top right. You will see First Team, Second Team and Old Boys Team. (2) If you read the weekly newsletter, the links are directly under each team's information panel under 'Fortune Round-up', which is at the top of the right hand column.
Q. Where can I find my team's appearances list?
A. Each team has ongoing appearances marked for every match played. Go to your team page and click on 'Appearances' which is above the fixtures/results section. Each appearance in the starting eleven is coloured orange and each appearance as a substitute is coloured blue. The figures inside the appearances boxes are the number of goals scored. These stats are totalled up at the end of the season.
Q. Where can I find my team's goalscorers?
A. Two ways - (1) On the team page via the fixtures/results section. You will see goalscorers listed after each result. (2) On the appearances page. See previous answer above.
Q. I've been sent off. Where can I find details of my suspension and fine?
A. On the 'Disciplinary Table' which is located via your team page. You will find the link above the fixtures/results section.
Q. Where do I find the Club's weekly newsletter?
A. Two ways - (1) On the home page under 'Players' Section', the newsletter is located under 'Club Membership'. Click on 'The Fortune News'. (2) Each newly updated issue is publicised via a weekly email informing you that the newsletter has been updated.
Q. Where do I check on all-time appearances or results?
A. Under the 'Club Records' section you will see an index covering numerous records, including a results archive. There is also a section featuring the 'Roll of Honour Index' covering Club award winners.
Q. Where can I find details of our cup results?
A. Under 'Competitions'. You will also see inter-Club matches, the Football Quiz and the Fantasy League listed in this category.
Q. Has the Club got an honours list?
A. Yes, under 'Welcome to TFFC!' you'll see 'Honours & Achievements', which includes links to various memorable feats by Temple Fortune and individual achievements too.
Q. Can I read about successful seasons in the past?
A. Of course! Check out the 'Best of Fortune' index under 'Inside the Club', which features certain seasons in more specific detail, including articles covering the Club's 'Glory Years'!
Q. I want to delve deeper into the site. Is there an index or site map?
A. On a lot of pages you will see 'Site Contents' at the bottom next to Home. For direct access, click under 'Welcome to TFFC!' and you will see Site Contents listed at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Q. I want to email one of the Management Committee members. Where can I find his email address?
A. On the newsletter 'The Fortune News', scroll to the bottom and you will find a list of email addresses. This appears on all weekly issues.
Q. Is there a quick way to email the Club?
A. Yes. Home page, bottom right... there is a link to info@tffc.co.uk.
Q. Are there a Welcome page, sponsors' page and list of Officers page?
A. Yes. All three feature under 'Welcome to TFFC!', together with a comprehensive 'Club History' section containing numerous pages. Oh, and there's even a list of all serving Officers since the Club first began - this appears under 'Management Committee' at the bottom of the page.
Basically, this website exists as an ongoing archive of everything to do with the TFFC and includes a lot of information. So please make use of it and if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me. The catch-phrase for the TFFC website is 'Info galore and a lot lot more'... and it's very true if you bother to look!
