FORTUNETELLER

News, views and everything TFFC by Nigel Kyte

Welcome to issue 10 of the newsletter
Both of our MSFL teams opened their home league campaign by playing at their new venues – The Hive and Gosling Sports Park respectively. And both teams came away delighted with victories, marking a great start on home soil! Or not 'soil' in the case of the First Team who played on the excellent 3G!

The FIRST TEAM won their first league match of the season by defeating MONTANA BOCA UNITED by 5-3. MICHAEL GOLDBERG (two goals), JASON MILLER, JEFF BATHIJA and a ROB BENSON penalty secured the points. The Firsts led 4-1 at one point but let the visitors back into the game with two quick goals conceded late in the match. However, a fifth goal settled the match.

Said a happy but very tired Lee Fegan, who rushed from a family break away to be there and play: "I'm really pleased with the overall performance. We played some excellent football and the team really came together and bounced back from last week's defeat. Michael Goldberg was exceptional and delivered a performance beyond expectations. I'm delighted we started so positively on our new pitch which suits our game." Jack Morris told the JC: "I felt we gained control of the game after about 25 minutes, and really should have seen the game out comfortably at 4-1 with five to go. We went to sleep twice to let them back in at 4-3, but grabbed a fifth to seal it."

The SECOND TEAM played BOCA JEWNIORS at Gosling Sports Park in Welwyn Garden City and came away with a good 6-4 victory. TERRY JEFFRIES (two, one a penalty), BEN DAVID, JONATHAN DUBINER, JOEY GLYNNE and DAVE SAWYER scored the goals.

Adam Glekin has submitted this report of the game: "The B's kept up their 100% start to the season with a battling 6-4 victory over Boca Jewniors at Gosling. Playing into a strong wind, the B's found themselves up against it after a fine long range strike and a defensive mix-up gave Boca a 2-0 lead in the opening 25 mins. Fortune worked their way back into the game and were rewarded with Joey Glynne's cool finish making it 2-1 at half time. With the advantage of the wind in the 2nd half, Fortune bossed the game in the 2nd half and were quickly into the lead thanks to a Terry Jeffries penalty after Dave Sawyer was manhandled in the box and an acrobatic scissor kick from the ever youthful Jon Dubiner. Sawyer's bullet header from a corner gave Fortune breathing space, but Boca gave themselves a lifeline with a goal on the counter attack. At 4-3, Fortune stepped it up another gear and a stunning overhead kick from Jeffries and a debut goal from Ben David put the seal on the game. A late penalty was merely a consolation for the away side." Adam added: "All credit to the lads, the first half was tough with the wind but we didn't panic despite trailing 2-0 and came back well to fully merit taking the 3 points."

The OLD BOYS TEAM were in action against ASHLODGE in their opening Masters Division 2 fixture at The HIve and lost 5-1. STEPHEN BROWER's excellent header from a corner registered the solitary Old Boys goal. Said a hugely disappointed Peter Kyte: "What a terrible, terrible performance... we just seem to go to the level of the worse teams and then surpass them. If we don't get better than this we're going to end up bottom of the league. It was awful."

RED CARD CAMPAIGN STARTS THIS WEEK
You may have seen the 'SIMPLE MATHS' jpeg circulated on Friday. The Club will be making a point of drumming into all our players that abusing a match official will NOT be tolerated and will earn any offender a ban of FOUR MATCHES. A reminder will be emailed every Friday to everyone in the shape of examples of things you could say to a referee and be sent off. Some you will find amusing but the serious message is always the same – ABUSE THE RED = FOUR MATCH BAN.

BE THERE ON TUESDAY!
MIDWEEK TRAINING
CONTINUES ON TUESDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER AT LONDON MACCABI LIONS SPORTS GROUND, ROWLEY LANE, BARNET, AT 9PM.
As you know, the Club has booked a third of the excellent London Maccabi Lions 3G pitch on Tuesday evenings at 9pm for an hour so please make every effort to attend. There will be a separate fee for training which can be paid in two installments or as 'pay and play' on the night (which will a dearer way of paying). Please email Jack Morris to confirm your attendance and to arrange your installment payment. The 3G takes moulded boots or astro trainers but not screw-in studs. If you are attending, please be there ON TIME.

LEE SPELLS OUT THE NEED TO ATTEND TRAINING
Extracted from an email by Lee Fegam First Team Secretary: "With regards to training, we have over 20 players signed up for the First Team this season and I hate to state the obvious but only 11 players can start a game for us. SO if you want to keep your place in the team or work your way into the team then TRAINING is a chance to impress the management. If you have not already paid for the first instalments of training then please do so THIS WEEK. Please don’t make it easy for us to not include you in our squad for Sunday’s game. Get on board and show us that you want to play every week and keep up this winning momentum." Enough said!

WELCOME TO ALL OUR NEWCOMERS!
A warm welcome to each and every new member who has recently joined the Club. It's great to have 'new blood' coming to this established Club and I hope that your respective team-mates will make you feel at home. Please make every effort to attend the training, details in the red box above. Good luck to all of our new players – and everyone for that matter!

CYRIL ANEKSTEIN CUP DRAW
The JC Cyril Anekstein Cup – the MSFL's 'League Cup' - first round draw was made at the League Council meeting on Tuesday. The First Team have been drawn away to FAITHFOLD 'C', who won the Barry Goldstein Trophy last season - luckily beating our Seconds 1-0 in the semi-final - whilst the Second team will meet LONDON MACCABI LIONS 'B', also an away tie. Both opponents are from the Second Division. The Second XI play on September 18 with the Firsts taking on Faithfold a week later at Gosling.

PUNCTUALITY IS A MUST
The Old Boys did not get off to the best start in the opening friendly last week against Clayhall both on and off the field of play. Several players arrived late. This is a timely reminder that you are requested to be at the venue NO LATER than 30 minutes before the kick-off. Anything after that is LATE. This applies to all three of our teams and fines will be imposed on repeated late-comers. Lateness affects the team preparation and is NOT acceptable. Please take the time to click here and read the information carefully. LATE PLAYERS will be named and shamed on this page in future.

THE TFN FANTASY LEAGUE, 2011/12: STILL OPEN TO ENTER
A reminder that we are running a new season of TFN FANTASY LEAGUE for the 2011/12 season, which will be our SEVENTH annual competition. It's easy to enter on the fantasy.premierleague.com website. In choosing a suitable name, you MUST use Upper and Lower case for both YOUR name (as manager) and the TEAM name – 'Super Stars' is correct, 'super stars' or 'SUPER STARS' is wrong. Any manager or team name which does not follow this will be deleted. Once you have formed your team and chosen the squad, go to LEAGUES, click on 'Join a league', then 'Private league' and enter the following Private League code: 57173-21943. There willl be a trophy at the end of the season and all-time listing on the Club' website as a CHAMPION! Last season we had a record entry of 37 people so come on, give it a go!

NEW DISCIPLINARY PAGE ON WEBSITE
To maintain a record of suspensions, I have introduced a new feature on the website which is as clear-cut to follow as anything. The disciplinary table will show each player sent off and suspended alongside a week-by-week calendar, with suspensions clearly marked in addition to fines, yellow cards, payments received or outstanding. And Club fines will be logged as well. The table provides a very useful reference for Team Secretaries monitoring a player's availability when suspended. To get to the page, click on any of the Team Page links shown above in the 'Fortune Pre-Seasons' panel, and then click on 'DISCIPLINARY TABLE'.

TFFC CLUB MEMBERSHIP TOTALS 62
I would like to thank each and every player who has joined the Club this season to play for our three teams. Some have joined as Full Members, some as Honoraries and some on a Casual basis. The majority have paid their fees but a few have not and they will soon be removed from the list if they don't settle up. However, that does not detract from the excellent figure of SIXTY-TWO members who have returned forms.

The Club's popular Inter-Club Football Quiz will be held for the TENTH tme this season and will start at the end of the month. All members on the Club's email directory are eligible to take part. MSFL FIRST DIVISION
TEMPLE FORTUNE 'A' 5, MONTANA BOCA UNITED 'A' 3

New boys Athletico Finchley were edged out in a seven-goal thriller at Bilbaum. The Bilbaum goals came through Sam Roth, Mark Pasha, Greibach and Adam Landes. Three goals from GOODMAN could not save Finchley.
