The Football Association has made appointing a Welfare Officer mandatory for season 2024/25. In her capacity as Administration Officer at TFFC, Kerry Higham is our chief Welfare Officer as listed on the Whole Game System (WGS) on the FA's online portal.
To affiliate to the London FA and our leagues, the Club must appoint team managers named on WGS as welfare-trained, by undertaking the FA's online Welfare course appropriately. With welfare and safeguarding now important aspects of running a club, we have added this page for important information to our Club Members. The role of the Welfare Officer is to be a point of contact for issues relating to the well-being of Club Members, with the aim of fostering positive experiences and relationships within the Club. Here are some example issues that our Welfare Officer may handle: • A Club Member has financial issues and wishes to discuss his 'Pay Your Way' situation; • A Club Member doesn’t feel included at events, or is nervous to get involved with the rest of the group; • A Club Member is struggling with his mental health and doesn’t know who to reach out to; • A Club Member wishes to report another's breach of the Code of Conduct; • A Club Member has behaved in a discriminatory manner towards another; • A Club Member has a change of personal circumstances needing to be discussed; • A Club Member wishes to discuss matters relating to the Personal Accident Insurance in place as a benefit of Full Membership and '200 Club' Membership; • A Club Member has an issue with a member of the management team and wishes to bring it to the Club's attention. The Welfare Officer should: • Be a confident, empathetic, sympathetic and supportive listenerl • Act as a mediator for minor disputes amongst Club Membersl • Be prepared to offer solutions and compromises when handling minor disputes, and be prepared to escalate more serious issues via the Team Management group or, where necessary, the Management Committeel • Deal efficiently and effectively with administration matters arising out of welfare issues with the assistance or advice of members of the Management Committee as appropriatel • Make decisions within the Club structure by complying with the Rules & Regulations, Code of Conduct and policies set by the Management Committee, at all times. The Club's aim is to provide Sunday League football in a safe environment yet to maintain the ethos of fair play and everything that the Club historically stands for in terms of organisation and correctness. Kerry holds the role of Welfare Officer on WGS primarily to help and advise where possible, and to uphold the Club's Rules & Regulations, Code of Conduct and policies set by the Management Committee and more locally the management teams in place. We invite Club Members to contact her unconditionally about any issues arising which she may be able to deal with under her role. Kerry's Club email address is below. Or feel free to call her or contact her directly via WhatsApp if you are in one of the groups.
