ISSUE 15 SUNDAY 14TH OCTOBER 2012
THE FIRST TEAM END THE BAD RUN WITH A GREAT WIN
THE SECOND TEAM LOSE AGAINST AC MILL HILL WHILST THE OLD BOYS DRAW AFTER TRAILING 3-1

FORTUNETELLER

News, views and everything TFFC by Nigel Kyte

Welcome to issue 15. Fortune collected a win, a draw and a defeat from the three league games played today. But for me, the highlight of the day (apart from hearing that the First Team had beaten Shirley Park) was celebrating Jeremy Fess's 500th appearance, a fantastic achievement.

Above is a picture taken at The Three Hammers in Mill Hill where a group of TFFC members gathered together with Mandy, Jeremy's wife, and David Wolff, our 'guest of honour' who presented the commemorative statuette. Also present was TFFC Vice-Chairman Nick Waitsman and MSFL Third Division Rep Mike Shorvon. Earlier in the day, Jeremy scored a goal for the Old Boys Team in their 3-3 draw with Glenthorne C at Gosling Sports Park. The TFFC website home page will be dedicated to Jeremy's wonderful milestone for a week; additionally you can read an article about JF reaching 500 Apps here. Congratulations to Jeremy Fess, an incredibly loyal member spanning many seasons and a really pleasant individual with it – 500 appearances for Temple Fortune Football Club!

Also reaching a milestone in terms of appearances is SIMON ALLEN who played his 300th game for the Club. Simon has been with us since season 1997/98 and has, like Jeremy, served the Club with admirable commitment and dedication for many seasons. Simon has been a backbone of many Temple Fortune defences over the years and always has a knack of getting the best out of his team-mates with his motivational talks. And like Jeremy, he has been a thoroughly popular individual whose service to the Club has been second to none over the years. Congratulations go to Simon who has become the tenth player to reach 300 games.

Now onto the football played today! The
FIRST TEAM played SHIRLEY PARK and pulled off a great 4–2 victory. Fortune fell behind yet again early on but fought back to lead 2-1, playing very well and a vast improvement on last week. The Firsts went on to win deservedly through goals by Shai Davidi, Kane Gilbery, Stuart Haring and Craig Cole's late penalty which settled the match. Shirley Park had a player sent off for violent conduct which didn't help their cause. Kane Gilbery scored the goal of the match – and arguably the season – when he collected goalkeeper Steve Murad's throw-out and raced from just outside the Fortune penalty area past the whole Shirley Park team to net a wonder goal – an incredible goal to fit any standard of football. Said an elated Lee Fegan: "Last week we all stayed behind after the Faithfold game and discussed as a team what needed to be put right. I'm delighted that everyone took things onboard and responded so well. We fought for each other and played as a team rather than a disjoined unit and reaped the rewards. We thoroughly deserved the win."

The SECOND TEAM played Division Three high-fliers AC MILL HILL for the second week in succession and lost 3-1 at Copthall Playing Fields. The Second Team could not repeat the fighting performance of last week and went down to opposition who were the better team on the day; it recorded the Second XI's first league defeat of the season. John Kemp netted Fortune's lone goal. Manager Terry Jeffries was not pleased with the refereeing: "The ref missed a blatant punch by their goalkeeper on me which should have been a red card. I wasn't happy with a lot of his decisions but fair play to Mill Hill who shaded it."

In Jeremy's well-documented 500th appearance, the
OLD BOYS TEAM took on GLENTHORNE UNITED C at Gosling Sports Park and came away with a creditable 3-3 draw after trailing 3-1 at half-time. The Old Boys went a goal down when ex-Fortune defender Howard Wallis was left free to head home a corner on ten minutes. As Glenthorne pressed for more goals, Fortune managed to draw level after 20 minutes, Gary Swerner putting through his own goal following a corner. Birthday boy Jeremy Fess then had a goal controversially disallowed for hand-ball before Glenthorne scored twice more, one through Swerner with a flicked near-post header. Just before the break, James Ryan incredibly missed on the goal-line after great touchline work by Robert Botkai, somehow spooning the ball high over the bar! But within a minute of the restart, Jeremy Fess pulled one back when he bobbled in a shot after a couple of rebounds in the Glenthorne penalty area. And parity was gained ten minutes later after James Ryan was heavily impeded from behind in the area, leading to a penalty kick which Allon Shick-Maier thumped home. Phil Bloomberg and former Fortune midfielder Nigel Grunberg were booked for a spat as chances came and went for both teams, more so for the Old Boys who did enough to have won in the second half with several breakaways. Said manager David Goldberg: "Glenthorne had a stronger C team than normal and we did well to come back as we did. But as usual we gave away some sloppy goals through not marking. I say it every week but some people just do not listen. However, I was pleased with our second half performance and I think a draw was fair given their dominance in the first half."

BRETT STEAD OUT FOR MONTHS
After the bad news about Josh Marlow comes more acute injury disappointment about First Team captain BRETT STEAD who emailed his team-mates during the week, saying: "Unfortunately I won't be joining you until February time if at all this season. Played on Tuesday and someone decided to take me out and break my foot. I am truly gutted and will try to at least come and watch you when I can. You are a great bunch of lads and im sure the wins are just around the corner." We wish Brett a speedy recovery.

We also hope that GARY BURNS quicky restores his voice after taking a heavy knock to his throat late on during the Old Boys match against Glenthorne. And Steven Lewis pulled his groin which cut short his involvement in the same game. We wish them both well, plus anyone else who is currently injured.

THE 11TH 'TFN' INTER-CLUB FOOTBALL QUIZ: ROUND ONE SCORES
The opening round of this season's Quiz was held last week and here are the scores:
12, Steve Feiger and David Goldberg
10, Bryan Silver
9, Martin Collins and Lee Fegan
8, Jonathan Dubiner, Michael Goldberg, Dean Ingram, Matt Leader and Jack Morris
6, Jonathan Cohen and Rob Jay
4, Anthony Hirschstein

Now that I have established how many people are interested in taking part in this season's quiz, I will devise a format for the remainder of the competition. The bottom three would have failed to make the 'cut' but due to the limited response and the fact they DID take part (which is appreciated), there will be no exclusions from Round One – Jonathan, Rob and Anthony have 'wildcards' (if you like) into the next round. Emails for the rest of the Quiz will ONLY be sent to the dozen listed. Quiz info

FLOODLIT MIDWEEK TRAINING AT MIDDLESEX UNIVERSITY
Floodlit training continues at Middlesex University in Greyhound Hill, Hendon, on Thursday nights between 8.30pm and 10pm for ALL Club Members. At £55 per week (the most we have ever paid for training), it is very important that as many players from the First and Second Teams attend as possible – and, of course, Old Boys are welcome too.

We are looking at ONLY £2 PER WEEK for those who pay a tenner subs on a Sunday morning (which will make life much easier regarding collection and not having to give too much change etc). £2 for an hour and a half of recreation is exceptional value in anyone's book so you would be foolish to miss out on this opportunity to train and enjoy midweek football with TFFC – and get FITTER at the same time. For those who attend training 'casually', the fee is likely to be £4 or £5 per session.

If you wish to be there, you can pay a tenner in subs each time you play on a Sunday (far better value) or bring a fiver on the night and hand to Lee or Jonathan Cohen. Obviously we need good attendance to cover the weekly cost. Please email Lee or JC and let them know that you intend to be there on Thursday (to give them an idea of numbers).

PETER MORRISON TROPHY DRAW
The First Team have been drawn to play MSFL Third Division BOCA JEWNIORS in Round One of this season's PMT. The tie will be played on Sunday 28th October at The Hive, 10am kick-off.

FOLLOW THE FIFA LAWS ON EQUIPMENT – OR YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PLAY
1. JEWELLERY: Jewellery is NOT permitted on the field of play. You MUST remove all items before you play – rings, bracelets, bangles, ear-rings, ear studs, chains, pendants and wrist bands... and, of course, watches – ANYTHING which would be termed as jewellery must be taken off. If you cannot remove a tight wedding ring, for example, it MUST be adequately taped up.

2. PROTECTIVE CYCLING, LYCRA OR THERMAL SHORTS OR SIMILAR UNDERGARMENTS: If you wear such items under your shorts when playing, they MUST match the colour of the team shorts worn. For the First Team and Old Boys Team, these undergarments MUST be RED. For the Second Team, they MUST be YELLOW. If the First Team wear the green kit, you will need GREEN undergarments. If you wear black, white or navy undergarments, or any other contrasting colour, YOU WILL BE TOLD TO REMOVE THEM BY THE REFEREE – OR YOU CANNOT PLAY. NEED HELP?

3. TAPE: A new Law brought in this summer, if you use tape to hold up your socks or your shin pads, it MUST be the same (or very similar) colour as the team socks worn. For the First Team, you will need RED tape. For the Second Team, NAVY or dark blue tape. For the Old Boys Team, YELLOW tape. If the First Team wear the green kit, you will need GREEN tape. NEED HELP?

WEEKLY RESULTS ROUND-UP OF TEMPLE FORTUNE'S MSFL DIVISIONS (courtesy of www.thejc.com)
DIVISION ONE
CAMDEN PARK 4 FAITHFOLD B 1
Two goals from David Kanzen boosted Camden Park's promotion hopes as they dished out a 4-1 demolition to Faithfold B at Ark Academy. Victory was cemented with further strikes from Rob Hershkorn and Richard Silver. Faithfold's Jonny Horowitz fired a consolation.
GLENTHORNE UNITED A 3 UJIA 0
Glenthorne A made easy work of UJIA, with Daneil Lassman, Daniel Lipman and Jamie Shaw doing the damage.
HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB B 6 CHIGWELL ATHLETIC 6
Game of the day saw Hendon B share the points following an incredible 12-goal thriller against Chigwell in west Hendon, with an injury time effort from Neil Tilley earning the visitors a point. Hendon's goals came through RA Noe (2), Chaim Gothold (2), Gav Noe and Yishai Last. Chigwell's scorers were Neil Tilley (2), Jamie Fox, Paul Lenchner and Craig Pearl.
SOUTHGATE HARMEN 0 LONDON MACCABI LIONS B 0
Defences dominated as the battle between Harmen and Lions B finished goalless at Ashmole School.
TEMPLE FORTUNE A 4 SHIRLEY PARK 2
Lee Fegan's Temple Fortune produced one of the performances of the day, with strikes from Stuart Haring, Kane Gilbery, Shai Davidi and Craig Cole earning the points against the much-fancied Shirley Park at the Hive.

DIVISION THREE
AC MILL HILL 3 TEMPLE FORTUNE B 1
The JC cameras saw AC Mill Hill turn on the style, with Scott Ackerman, Jason Shoffman and Paul Katz finding the target as Temple Fortune B tasted defeat for the first time this season. Jubilant Mill Hill boss Joe Levy told JC Sport: "This was a game which I felt we dominated from start to finish. We stepped up a gear from last week and although our first goal didn't come until the second half, we kept our composure and made it count when it mattered."
JEWVENTUS 4 L’EQUIPE 4
There were goals galore at Chase Lodge in a game which saw both sets of fans go home happy after the respective teams claimed a point apiece.
LOUGHTON ORIENT 0 FAITHFOLD C 2
Star striker Ben Simons and Dave Sherman were the marksmen as Faithfold C completed a good morning's work in Essex.
OAKWOOD B 3 FC TEAM C 4
FC Team C boosted their title hopes with a thrilling victory over fellow high-flyers Oakwood B at Parmiters. Oakwood started well and took a two-goal lead through Ben Polak and Rafi Bloom. Polak's goal in particular was excellent and indicative of the football Oakwood are capable of playing. FC Team deservedly got back into the game but the Oaks restored our two-goal lead through Ben Myers with a free kick.
TOTTENHAM CHUTSPAH 4 NORSTAR C 1
There was more glory for Tottenham Chutspah as Ariel Tamman's men did the business against Norstar C. David Domb grabbed a consolation for Norstar, but what a strike it was.
BOCA JEWNIORS v HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB C
Match postponed – Boca forfeited.

MASTERS REVIEW
WEEKLY RESULTS ROUND-UP OF TEMPLE FORTUNE'S MSFL DIVISIONS (courtesy of www.totallyjewish.com/football/)
DIVISION ONE
A solitary goal from Jonny Mack gave Southgate Harmen a win over Scrabble, while Glenthorne A maintained second spot with a 4-2 win over Waldaf Town, inspired by two goals from Greg Morris, along with strikes from Jamie Chapman and Marc Silver. Andrew Morrow and Hezi Yechiel replied for Town.
DIVISION TWO
St John's Wood Tigers leapt into second place with a 2-0 win over Brady B, courtesy of goals from Gary Starr and David Hyman. And the battle between Temple Fortune and Glenthorne C finished 3-3, with Gary Swerner, Richard Lester and ex-Fortune Howard Wallis all netting with headers for Glenthorne. Fortune's goals came from an own goal, a goal from Jeremy Fess, on his 54th birthday and his 500th appearance for the club plus a penalty converted by Allon Schick-Maier.
