THE TFFC
SPORTMANSHIP
TROPHY

The concept of the TFFC Sportsmanship Trophy originated in 2003 when Nigel Kyte, the Club's Chairman, gave a summary of the season's disciplinary record at the 27th AGM on Sunday 22nd June 2003.

As part of his report for season 2003/03, he said: "So the winners of the TFFC Sportsmanship Trophy, if we had one, are the Second Team – well done to them!" After a pause, he concluded: "A team sportsmanship award – now maybe that's a good idea!" And from there the notion was born, although it took a further seven years before a trophy was eventually purchased.

So the TFFC Sportsmanship Trophy was officially introduced at the end of the 2009/10 season when a golden resin trophy was purchased to recognise the Club's best sporting team of the season. Said Nigel about the new trophy: "'It is World Cup-like in appearance and the sculptured footballers below a star-design football make it altogether an attractive trophy. I think it is very fitting for this award."

Sadly this trophy strangely disappeared after the Covid-19 pandemic when all perpetual trophies were being recalled and had to be replaced by a golden bowl trophy donated by Chairman Nigel Kyte.

When the Sportsmanship Trophy was introduced as a proper Club award, a points system was adopted by Nigel as the criteria for establishing the annual winners. Prior to then, the so-called 'winners' were simply the team with the fewest disciplinary bookings, sending-offs and league fines each season.

TFFC SPORTSMANSHIP TROPHY POINTS SYSTEM
Below is the points system applying from season 2009/10 and thereafter:
Yellow Card (any offence) = 1 point
Red Card – second cautionable offence/denying goalscoring opportunity = 2 points; serious foul play = 3 points; violent conduct/abusive, insulting, offensive language = 4 points; serious misconduct = 5 points
Club Fines – Up to £10 = 1 point; £10 or over = 2 points
League Fines – £10 = 1 point; £20 = 2 points; £30 = 3 points; £40 = 4 points; £50 or over = 5 points.
